Seems ALL of his shows are from the same 1 or 2 lakes. Does he ever use a public ramp at a public lake? Every fish he catches is the same size!!

I talked to a friend of a friend who knew a friend of Billie, He told me Bill only does his show on those 3 PRIVATE ponds, oh yeah some of those ponds are as big as our lakes! He also has exclusive rights to em, And after watching a few shows, I have to think he knows all those fish by name!
If i recall, wasent Bill pushing a LONG SHANK'ed spinnerbait and BUZZ bait a while back???? SO whats new about that Idea then????? HA!

I've seen Bill hammer smallmouths on the Tennessee River...as well as catfish there as well...stripers too.

That's public water...fwiw...

You guys act like this is something new in the t.v. world....it's been goin' on forever...

Oh, I know it's not new... but his show was just on and he was in the same lake as the last show, and the show before that, etc... And we have hard water here still... I'm itching to get the boat out... and I'm jealous!!!

My dad and I were just talking about this. One of the last episodes he actually made known that he pad paid for the rights to fish this certain lake. Kind of crazy if you ask me.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!....Bill Dance and all of that southern crap is one big snooze, and Boring with a capital B.

Now give me a dose of those crazy dudes on Versus working over those Minnesota lakes, and I can watch them all day long. Even what's his name is pretty informative on The Anglers Edge, but leave the religious stuff at the door.

Lost interest a few years back. Just about anyone of us could do the same thing in the water he's fishing. I wish they had a show where they are catching that kind of quality on high-pressured northern inland lakes such as Gun, Wabasis, Big Pine, then I'd be impressed.

Gee, I catch those kind of bass on those lakes... at least one per year! LOL!!

This has been beat to death on many other sites. Bill earned his name by winning a lot of the early BASS events. He was "The Man" back then. He then made the decision to make shows and not tournament fish as much. His shows were always successful and allowed him to make a nice living doing it. His shows are what they are, fun for people who are not engrossed in the sport like we are. Would I watch his shows hoping to pick up some tips to use on Gun? No. Would I watch it because all the rest of the channels on TV have Paris or Britney or some other idiot on them? Give me Bill any day over that crap.

Everything I have ever heard about Roland Martin has been negative. I have never heard/read a good story about the man. He comes off as a real pompus A-Hole.

Tight Lines!

Would love to see how well any of those bass holes would do fishing lk. st. clair in 3 footers.

The father in law lives down in the Vol. state and has fished a few times with Bill and stated he wasn't to bad of a guy??? The older episodes with Bradshaw, and Jerry Reed always kill me!!! My favorite was Dance and Hank Jr. just killin slab craps on (the lake escapes me)(maybe Kentucky) I always enjoyed I think his name is Jerry McGinnis??? The fishin Hole??? use to be on espn, haven't seen it in many a moons!!!

I would say Bill knows what he is doing, so does Roland. Roland is just a pimp for anything he can put his name on. Nothing to say about his fishing skills.

There is a well known spot on St. Clair, where I have personally caught a 5lber from, known as the "Roland Martin Spot"....

Roland used to do well up here....

He could hold his own...

I think what has happened is that with the outdoor channel and vs we get to see so many fishing shows that have caught up with the times and are very instructive..like the bass pros, and bass edge..and so on and so forth...with bill he just keeps pumping out the same types of shows with lakes with no other boats and no houses around. Back in the day there weren't many to watch, but now i don't even watch his show. No offense to the guy..I enjoyed watching years ago ...just to many more informative exciting fishing shows on the air waves now.

you should get to know someone before you stomp him into the dirt.

Roland isn't what you described at all.....i spent quite a bit of time with him a few years back. fishing, socializing, going over film for one of his shows and so on. he is a very laid back, quiet individual.

he was given a break by alot of companies trying to get their product out into the outdoor world, and from that he has become "a real pompus A-Hole" for a lack of better words.:dizzy:

i would do the same thing, given the chance.

oh, by the way, he is also a member of an Elite club of fisherman that have earned over $1 Million fishing BASS Tournaments.....i would say the guy can fish as well as he can push a product.:fish:

BTW....Bill Dance has fished Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee a few times, and done very well, but not near as well as the "paid for" lakes he mostly fishes....oh well, it is what it is.

As I stated, everything I have ever read/heard has been negative.

Congrats on being the first one to say something nice.

You were working on his show with him? Might have something to do with him tolerating you....

I love watching Bill. In fact, i have actually bought some of the lures he has used and done very well. Only done this once or twice. One lure in particular, its a bumble bee. I've done very well with it, caught numerous bass, a few pike and the occasional very aggressive gill.

So what if he fishes the same place over and over. I find him very informative and think he's funny. He's my fishing idol (besides SFW;)). I also like that he goes after Gills on occasion.

long story short....we met while having dinner at Damon's in Maryland while fishing the Potomac River during a B.A.S.S. event.

we practiced for a week there, Thousand Islands in New York (St. Lawrence River) and the Hudson River in New York.

no...i never worked on his show, i was at his hotel room while he and his producer went over some film for one of his shows. i was, however, invited to go to the Amazon for Peacock bass, but couldn't afford it at the time.

didn't mean to jump on ya.....no hard feelings.....:fish:

Funny how these types of threads always turn into a "when I was there" or "when I fished with him..."

I don't care. His show is for average anglers... not people like me (and many, many others I know) who like to disect a lake, figure the fish out, EARN our catches. Fishing the same damn lake for nearly every show is cheap. Makes for good T.V. and that's all he is about... and that's fine for him and the average angler. I MUCH prefer Bass Pros, Bass Edge, Critical Concepts, Ike's city fishing show whatever it's called (City Limits??), Fishing University, etc...

Oh, and I will NOT watch a Roland program. Can't stand the man's on-air personality. But that's just me, and I dont' expect anyone to agree.

I don't really know the first thing about bass fishing, at least specifically targeting bass. Of course I catch the occasional bass while throwing cranks or spinners, including a super one in the UP one time. I'm hoping that waterfoul can begin to change that this summer.

That said, I like watching fishing. If Bill is on when I have time to watch tv, I'll watch him. But I'm one of the novice who can actually maybe possibly learn at least a little something. And its better than celebrity crap. It'll keep me until the Tigers start at least!

Al Linder is THE MAN when it comes to fishing shows.
But I do enjoy Bill Dance, he is the everymans bass pro.

When Roland fished the B.A.S.S. tourney on LSC back in 1994 I was at the final day weigh-in. After Roland came off the stage there were a lot of kids asking for his autograph. He didn't give any of those kids an autograph. He just stood there looking at the leader board to see if he was going to get a check then walked away. He ended up with $1,200 that day. Jimmy Houston signed everyone's autograph that asked for it that day after he weighed in.

It's been a few years since I watched Bill but he was never my first choice to watch. KVD sort of made fun of Bill at the Ultimate Fishing show back January of 2007. During his seminar he made the comment that "not everyone gets to fish in Bill Dance's pond". I had to laugh when he said that.

Excellent, I'm looking forward to it. As I've said, I just like to fish. I'm not looking for a day of instruction either, I catch on pretty fast by just watching and doing my own thing. Just don't make fun of my ugly stick!

Trost was a good man that tried to do the right thing for Michigan Outdoorsman. Too bad Eric Sharp took a cheap shot at him after he passed away.

Lost a lot of respect for sharp after that article.

I don't bother to read any of his stuff anymore....
