My wife seems to have massive tangles with our spinning rods (won't let her touch my baitcasters:lol:) I've never had a problem with spinning reels tangling and I can't see that she is doing anything wrong. What is the best solution to this? Is there a spinning reel out there that won't tangle as easy? Just curious. Thanks.

You might try a low memory limp line and don't fill the spool to the maximum. That seemed to help my son when he was younger.

probably line twist.
a. give her a good barrell swivel
and
b. make sure you wind line onto spinning reel in the proper fashion:

Also, if she's anything like my now ex-girlfriend, who was a very good fisherperson, she's letting the bait hit the water and then closing the bail with the reel handle. This will inevitably put a loop in the line. Teach her to close the bail by hand the instant or even JUST before the bait hits the water.

I agree, using the handle to trip the bail will almost always get you some loop's, closing the bail by hand tend's to be more accurate and gives you the chance to make sure the line is not looped or loose on the spool!
As far as Braided line goes, it wont halp the bail situation, it assists in line twist as its not as easily affected by it, it still twist's up, but dont coil up line mono lines!

That's funny you mentioned that...same thing happens with my wife. She uses my rods, she'll get one tangled, I'll untangle it and give her another and that one will get tangled. I'll use the one I just untangled and have no problems with it. Still haven't figured out what she's doing...

The only thing I can think of is that when she casts she just lofts it out there and doesn't fire it out there like she means it...the way a more experience angler would. I think these soft casts might make it easier for the line to tangle versus a hard casts.

"A great innovation in kids' fishing, the Rocket Fishing Rod promises no more casting, no more snags and no more hang-ups. Just pump, cast over 30 feet and reel 'em in! It comes with a safety bobber that hides the hook when launching, and releases it in water.
Fogo Ready to Fish Rocket Rod Includes:
Hook-hiding safety bobber
Fishing tips booklet
Three hooks
Three weights
Three grubs (rubber worms)"

Really though,it might just be the way the line is spooled.

Try a Daiwa Underspin reel. Easy to use, trigger release, rear drag. Plus they actually like it and it makes your day on the water more enjoyable. You get to do 2 things you enjoy. Fish and not be bothered with problems. And because she had so much fun hanging out with you, there is always the potential for more activity at home.

No need to thank me.

Get the 120XC with 25" of line retrieve and never look back. 8-10# mono and watch the fish jump in the boat.

First teach to close the bale as the line is still coming of the reel (just as the lure, or what ever you are casting) hits the water. Next thing is tug on the line after you have trip the bale, every time, you make a cast, that will get the lope out if there was one. Good luck.
