Set a couple of tip-ups out then proceeded to try to retrive my leatherman that I lost down the hole friday, (fell off my knee after unhooking a Pike, one bounce off the ice then right down) The magnet worked after about 5 minuets and I got the leatherman back. I sat there watching the tip-ups and had a flag pop about 8:45 and landed a nice 31" northern. all morning the ice was cracking and popping, I had seen a very large Musky Friday and Had seen one last month that hit my spearing decoy in the same spot. About 12:30 another flag went up. I walked over and started bringing the line in. It felt like a good fish. It made several long runs when I got it to the hole it swam threw. yeh good fish, It was a Musky I knew that I would have to let it go if I did get it in, After about 15 minuets it was under the hole I took the small gaff with the treble hook on the end and hooked his lower jaw tried to lift it out, the head just barely fit into the hole I dont think the rest of the fish would fit threw the 8" hole. the hook straightend out on the gaff, and the 17lb florocarbon leader snapped. I was hoping just to get a mesurement on this one. Fun easter. Ice was about 13" but getting real soft on top.
