Snowy start (6 am) :dizzy:. Be carefull over there,,,dont let the thickness fool you,,,mushy honeycombed ice and a little shaky getting on. Didnt get on good fish till 11:00 or so and had a good bite till about 1:30. Had one fish under 9 ( I think w h bonney tossed it in my pile when I wasnt looking) and the largest was 12 1/2. Bonney did about the same. Got enough salt on my boat and trailer to give half of wayne county high blood pressure. All and all a good day.

What was even more nuts were the guys that went stomping out all over the place,,,,,, with no spud. The ice was completely snow covered,, with some noticeable "wet spots",, there were no tracks anywhere and 2 guys wandered out about a half mile away from everyone else:dizzy:....... Or,,, the guys that were bailing out their boat as we were leaving:tdo12:,,,,,, we asked if they were ok,,,, they waved us off,, said they were fine.:dizzy:

From the way all of tou are talking it sounds like you are down river. I'm new to the site, and havn't had very much to report on . It's been a slow year. I havn't been fishing much, my wife is disabled witch makes if hard to get out to fish as much as I like to .So I would be very greatful if someone could pass on the info . THANKS

THANKSNot knowing that area I wouldnt chance the Ice,,,In a week or two when the ice is gone Id be more than happy to meet you out there and show you the ropes,,,us tradesman gotta stick together:lol:. Hit me up when it gets a little warmer. By the way,,,its right where the det. river dumps into erie,,,,look at a river map or a western basin erie map,,,the x-dyke is directly east of sugar island which is east of gross isle. South side of the dyke is usaully best. Drop shot rig works best for me with minnows.

thanks for letting me know the location . I might try after ice out, like you said I don't like fishing a new area on last or first ice.Ilike to thank all of you for being open about where all of you are catching fish ,it's been helpful in deciding where to fish. I've been to other sites but some of their members were tite liped about location and color. This makes me glad I joined this site . THANKS:);):)

You guys suck!!!! I probably won't be back home for at least a month, i hope the spring bite is still on then. Open water with slip bobbers can be incredible there, have seen many a 14+ incher caught there in the open water, my bro lost one last year that was at least 15 right at the boat...

any any tips on slip bobber fishing effectively? Tried it a few times and had no luck....Use it where theres fish.:lol:setting your depth is the biggest thing,,,I use a regulare ice depth finder,,,clip it on your bottom hook and make sure your bobber stop is a foot or so under water,,,keep checking it every once in a while (they will move) give it a gentle pull every once in a while to make sure you didnt snag a weed.

Youll make it for prime time!

Hope so, i hope i can hit the eye and the perch run dead on. There is about, what, 2 weeks where the perch and eye run are both around peak, that is an amazing time on the lower river. Also, the HITW should be hot by then also.

With the slip bobbers, depth is everything, your minnow has to be right on bottom. Also, frequently give a tug to your line, cause they bite very light sometimes, and many times you just give a tug and you have a fish on, and they like to bite on the tug even.

Boedy are you going to be out there this weekend?I think the ice will still be around this weekend,,,and definetly not safe... If the ice blows out theres a good chance we'll be there ,,, but I dont think it will be fishable by boat till the week after this. Think Im gonna head over to the "hot hole" :coolgleam and have some fun this weekend.

After the straight south winds yesterday and today, there cannot be anything left on the south side. It was rollin 1-1.5 ft in the river last night.
