Thats what hand do you use! %**$#@%%#-it
I have to believe im one of the lucky ones, and thats a good thing ya?
Well I watch TV ya know, see a lot of fishing shows, I see 80% of the guys casting baitcasters with the right hand then have to switch up so they can crank with the right hand??? why would ya! Wasted time i say,
I cast with my Left-hand and thats it, no wasted time changing up!
Ive had lots of strikes at the very moment the lure hits the water, even had fish come out of the water to take it just befor it hits! I wouldnt want to be in the middle of switching hands at that moment! How do you DO IT!

I cast with the right and retrieve with the right for baitcasting and spinning. Casting with one arm and holding the rod with the other gives the arms a more even workout that having one arm do all the "heavier" work.

For me i think its always been an Eye dominance thing, im accurate with my left had, started out using an old ZEBCO 202 as a kid, handle was on the R-hand side, So ive always casted with the left hand, but I have recently had major surgery on my left wrist, and really was thinking about trying to learn to switch up, I would last a lot longer without the dreaded wrist PAIN! OUCH!

I kind of use both hands to cast my baitcasters... so I don't really "switch" hands to reel with my right. I can set the hook on the splash if I need too. Seems to be working for me.

Been using baitcasters for years. Unless it's real windy, I usually switch hands in the middle of the cast as the lures on its way (cast with right). Pitching and Flipping, I use both - depending on where the next target is. C-man

Don't let it get around...but I go both ways.
Helps keep my back in order rather than always doing the same redundant motion. I can get better angles on docks and boats...ect.

I baitcast and switch, simply because I cannot realiably wind with my left hand over the course of a day or a trip...

I'm naturally left handed so left hand cast and right hand crank...........works for me......

Maybe 25 yrs ago, I watched a fishing show that was titled "Top 10 Tips From The Pros". I can't remember who the rest of them were, but one of them was Orlando Wilson. His tip was buy a left hand baitcaster, and force yourself to switch to left handed. Throw with your right, and retrieve with your left. I did, and it was the best tip I've ever recieved.:) So much easier! Do it, and you won't be disappointed. Capnhook

I am right handed and use a left hand baitcaster as well. It is the way all my fishing poles were setup as ( spinning reals and fly rods) I did try a right handed bait caster but brought it back, it just felt ackward for me.

My baitcaster is lefty, me a righty. I like the control I get with my right thumb. Never really had any adjustment issues, cranking with the left hand.
My spinners are all rightys.
Just works for me.

I'm a lefty too. But I can cast and or retrieve with either hand. Partially because most of the rods and reels out there seem to be set up for right hand people I've gotten used to using them. But overall it really doesn't matter to me, I can use either.

I'm a righty, and the amount of grief I'd be likely to experience getting left-handed baitcasting thumbing down pat is mind-boggling. But then, if I do my guitar finger work with the left hand, I suppose anything's possible ...

I have always used baitcasters. When i was a kid my uncles were big time bass guys, this was in Arkansas. So us kids got the old used gear. It's just better, that's what i tell my buddy's that just don't get it or take the time to learn the skills needed to use a baitcaster. Even when i use my spin gear i put the handle on the right.

:yeahthat: Once one gets around the learning curve, it's great to kiss those line twist snarls goodbye. Not to mention way smoother drags ($55 Penn 209 has a better drag than any spinning reel).
Whenever I spool a spinning reel I have about 60' of line from the reel to the spool, making sure it's coming off the spool the same direction it's going onto the reel, then take a 200+ yard walk, stripping all the line off, reel the line back in to untwist it, maybe even do that again if there's still some twist, and it still gets twisted when I'm out on the water!
I always use two hands ( No pistol grip rods in my box), but usually thumb with the right thumb.
Hold the rod in my left and reel with the right.
When I had my left arm in a cast, I had to go buy a left cranking reel, because I couldn't set the hook with my left arm. Never could get used to it, even though I am perfectly comfortable reeling with my left hand on a spinning reel and fly reel.

Although jigging or trolling I will often hold the rod in my RH.....
:dizzy:
RH cast/ RH reel with B/C's
RH cast/ LH reel with Spinning
