I have a Mercury 9.9 Bigfoot 4 stroke outboard motor that is 96 lbs and am looking for an adjustable outboard motor bracket to bolt onto my starcraft islander. I currently have a Fulton adjustable bracket (rated to 20hp) that is probably 15+ yrs old and looks weathered. I am reluctant to put this new outboard on it and chance it breaking off. My dilemma is that I called around to BPS, Gander Mt, and Cabelas and nobody seems to have a heavy duty bracket that can be trailered. Galelick Co. states their 4 stroke bracket is not recommended to be used while motor is installed and being trailered. Another S/S bracket from Cabelas states not to be used with 4 stroke high torgue motors. Panther brackets are noted to the same. All these brands states to take the outboard off and install it when you get to your destination. Thats ridiculous considering its a 4 stroke and not suppose to lay them down on its side. Hope somebody has some input and or brand of a good bracket.:dizzy:

The number one reason I went with a newer 2 cycle outboard was the weight difference. The 2nd reason was that the outboard motor cannot be laid down on the one side.

The other side is good. You can check with the dealer and find out which side is OK.

As long as you don't have any interference with trim tabs or any other reason for an offset. this is all you need.

I know lots of people who use this with motors just like yours. You will LOVE having a 4 stroke.

Suckerbass, this wont work with my boat as I do not have any kind of cut out on the transom. Islanders have a high and straight across transom. There is no other way for me to mount my kicker w/o an adjustable trolling bracket bolted to the rear.

That 4 stroke Galelick bracket sure looks nice and is rated to 175 lbs. Cant see why I couldnt trailer my 96 lb O.B. on that bracket?? Its well below the max. weight. I just dont like the manufacturer telling me its not advisable. Why rate it with such high specifications if it cant handle it completely?

Because stuff happens. They are saying that they do not advise doing it. Lot of difference between advising not to do something and coming right out and saying "NO Do Not Do".

I know that there are many guys who trailer once or twice a week and will remove the kicker motor rather than have it just hanging there while going down the road.

Looks like I will be doing that too...Not looking forward to the $350 hit on the Garelick but not looking to cut corners.. Tight lines soon..
