I am thinking that I want a Jon boat. Are they a safe boat???
A lake I fish up in NW Ontario--we go up a river approx. 20 miles and camp up there and fish portage lakes off this lake with canoes.
Thinking a Jon boat would transport a lot of gear and also pull a canoe etc.
Looking for a 16-18 footer and kinda wide. Don't need a built in gas tank--don't want a live well or a lot of storage.
Just looking for a wide open floor plan for hauling a lot of gear.
Is a Jon boat a good boat for what I want to do?????

Do any of you folks know where I could get a decent used one????

thanks len 989-386-7314

Jon boats are a safe boat for what they were made for. They are great for shallow water and small lakes. They are not suitable for big water or big waves. From what you are describing it sounds like a Jon Boat would be perfect.:)

I use a 16 footer in the river and out in LSC on CALM days. more than a foot of chop and its ugly. But they are real stable, carry alot of weight and can go into shallow water places where other boats not dare.
