What was your most memerable hunt?
I have 2 that really stand out. But for the sake of not hogging all the discussion for myself I'll share my first deer story with you.
Well it was several years ago the first year I was with my husband(he was just a boyfriend back than, lol) He thought he'd teach this ole city girl to hunt and a little about the woods. He bought me my 30-06 that summer and together we built my condo deer blind. (The guys call it a condo because I made a bench in it so I could take a nap and it's insulated.) Well he taught me tthe how to's of shooting, what deer sign was, and got me out there baiting. Yes baiting this is the UP,lol. Next step deer camp. Boy that is a story all in itself. Opener morning he gets me up at 4:30 in the morning to eat than off in the freezing dark morning to go out to the condo. We sat for an eternity it seemed waiting for the sun to come up. I thought he was half baked, what a nut. He explained that you have to be in the blind before the deer come out to feed. Made sence. Well we sat all day and night looking at does and fawns. Kool yes but I wanted to see a buck to see some blood shed. No such luck allday. I was getting discouraged. He told me that evening hunting is usually pretty good, I thougt to myself yah right.
Well around 5 or so he seen something moving off to the right of my bait. Kool a deer right. WRONG it was a bear. A 150 pound model. Well mr. bear thought he'd sit down and partake in a lil corn action. Well my hubby shot one round off to scare that dumb ole bear off. Think that bear ran? NO, he took his sweet ole time walking out of there. Well we thought smoke break so we opened up the windows and were laughing and carrying on about the bear. I looked up and yelled holy smoke it's a buck and it ain't no spike horn. Joe says well shoot it. I grabbed my gun and BANG it went on the tin roof. That buck still stood there but staring right at us. I placed my gun barrel out the window of my blind touched her off and that buck ran. I was a lil T'd I knew I aimed in the right spot. Joe said it ran over a small hill and dropped. Great i thought because I would not want to be picked on the rest of the season from the guys. We walked over to me prize and to my suprise I just bagged myself a big 8 point. I was so proud.
Well not that I shot a deer the ole man said I was on my own. Great I thought can i do this by myself. I sat for 3 days seeing nothing but does. Finally a buck came in. I thought he was a fork horn. Well I blasted him. He also ran, so now I had to track him. Not too far tho only 60 yards. When I got up to him I discovered he too was an 8 point altho alot smaller than the first. I drug him out of there and got him back aways to gut him out. I couldn't believe it 2 eight points my first year. And I also couldn't believe they run so far with a lethal hit to the heart and lungs. A tale that I'll always remember, Born
