Anyone know where I can get a rod tip repaired in Mid Michigan? Even if is just someone who does this on the side in their basement, but is good. I busted the tip on my favorite walleye rod somehow over the winter. Its a St Croix and is covered by a lifetime warranty, however, I'm going to need it soon (as soon as the Ice at Wild Wings on Lake Erie busts open -- could be any day!!!) and it usually takes 4-6 weeks to send something and get it back from St. Croix. I could buy one of those cheap "glue on tips" but this is my walleye catching machine, I want it done right.

Thanks.

You should be able to get a tip put on at Gander...it only costs a couple dollars. The only time I've ever had to wait over two weeks for a rod to be replaced by Croix is when it was on back order...I'd be more concerened if they would replace it at all on a broken tip situation. They would probably give you a new rod at partial warrenty.

How much of the blank did you lose? If you can put a tip on and still have the same action as before (or close) I'd go to the Lansing Gander. If you lost a few inches I'd call St. Croix and see what they say.

I didn't loose any of the blank, I lost the ceramic and crushed the wire eye, so its a relatively simple repair, but its my jigging/rigging rod so I depending on this puppy to be very sensitive and I don't trust my sloppy work. You'd think Croix wouldn't cover this because its not a manuf defect, but this is the third Croix I've done this to (over about 20 years) and they repaired the first two no questions asked. They have a great product and they back it up great, that's why I've been using them for 20 years. But it seems that it always takes at least a month to ship there and they get it back. On top of that, this is 7' one piece rod, so if it costs me <$15 to repair, I'm probably at least a push if not ahead on shipping costs

Thanks for the tip on Gander, I didn't realize they did rod repair, I'll just take it to them.

:yeahthat:

If there really is no damage at all to the blank, should be a simple fix. May be worthwhile to have someone else look at it, to be sure that there are no hairline cracks. Either way, the guys at the fly shop know their stuff.

They just fix tips...should be like $1.79 plus tax

I've got a Legend Elite casting rod that I damaged the third or fouth guide pulling it out of the rod locker...they were going to charge my $100+ for an exchange:yikes: I just had a friend re-wrap it for free. I think Croix's customer service has gotten worse in the last three years. I've got a lot of their rods over the years and most of the are Legend Elite with lifetime warrenties...At first it was no problem to get them replaced...lately it's become a pain. Last year they sent me the new Legend Elite instead of one of the old green one's (I seem to break one a year:mad:) that was nice. I still use their rods but all my new one's in the last 3-4 years have been from G Loomis...I've been very happy with them and their customer service...
