Well, since ice fishing is pretty much over (for me at least)
I've been itching for the open water season... I did *okay* on walleye last year, first year fishing them, and not fishing seriously.. Other than that, I didn't really do squat. I've got a few new lakes to try however, and I think I'm going to learn some bass techniques. Also this year, I think I'm going to learn to fly fish, and I want to get a good bluegill rod and catch them on their beds this year. I missed them last year by not fishing often enough, but this year I have a truck so it will be easier to pull the boat. Gonna be a lot of going out by myself though.. Also, I might buy my own boat since I've been using my grandpa's in the past.

So, what are your plans for this year?

well as usual....like my name.... i shall be on the prowl for pike in my local river. catch some bass, maybe some suckers. some perch too maybe. but unlike most fisherman here, i am to young to go out on a boat for serious fishing..... so it looks like bass on lake st. clair. i caught a musky from shore there, that made me feel good. i look ahead to learning what everyone is doing. however the season may start late do to the bizzare stories of "22 inch ice". lol what a load of BS....in my opinion.

This year I'll be going after some toothy critters, too. At last have the gear for it. Most psyched for the spring pike action and St. Clair musky action.

Also planning on hitting the Huron River steelhead run in May and taking in some spring walleye action. May do a bit of season opener bass fishing and fly rodding for spring panfish, too.

So many fish to catch, so little time... :fish:

I guess in reality my goal this year is to catch more fish on bigger baits like spinnerbaits and deep cranks. I also want to throw the jig more than in the past. And I geared up this winter to do just these things!

Robert, last year I landed a steelie at the dam that JUST made MA, and I fought and lost a steelie buck that was EASILY a Master Angler fish down stream from town in a stretch of water I had all to myself. The year before I did the same thing and someone here even took a great picture of me fishing with Brandon! That's 3 MA fish in 2 years... but only one landed and photographed.

I've heard there are some big pike in a few select locations of the Rouge ... but they have a sort of strange color ... must be from eating a few too many of the treatment system overflow browns, mistaking them for floating carp. Pike can be opportunistic scavengers, after all ...

Apparently some dysexlic steelies and 'eyes also run up the lower stretches before hitting the dam in Dearborn ...

Now I'm all the more determined.

Not to mention glad they closed the asylum in nearby Northville. Someone sees me throwing a 9" body bait into the river, and I'd almost certainly have a room with my name on it in there if it were still open.

We should have a River Rouge fishing derby, with a special prize for anyone who eats their catch and survives.

Perhaps call it SE Michigan Angler Jackass.

Fix up the boat, thinking about removing the two bench seats, putting level flooring in. May raise it up enough to install some bases, for some decent swivel seats. I just need some moving around room.

No, waterfoul getting a younger boat motor is just not on the list yet $$.

Get to at least one of the Monday nighters. :cool:

Bring a bass into the livewell when it counts $$. :rant:

Fill the freezer with some perch, gills, walleye and pike. The venison is lonely.

Head out at least 2-3 times a week. :fish:
