I don't know how many of you have wrapped your own float rods, but I have a question about the guides that you may have used.
I've received several catalogs that mention certain guides as "float rod guides", but I'm curious as to what the custom rod builders prefer.
Cost isn't an issue here, but weight is.
I'm building a 12' 4-piece float rod from an old Forecast 2-hand blank, and would like to keep the tip end light enough for extended use.
Any info you have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks and tight lines...

Just use recoils if weight is the most important issue. Those or Fuji TiSIC are the best in most peoples opinions, but Recoils are lighter in sizes 10 and under. Weight is going to be an issue in most long rods and if you want to do it right you will add counter-balance weight to the butt of the rod so there is absolutely no weight in the tip, regardless of which guides you go with...

When they are saying float rod guides they mean "Hi-Frame" I believe anyway, which I don't really care for. I prefer a mid frame like the above mentioned guides....

check out the american tackle titan guides with the nanolite ring 60% lighter then stainless steel so they say...... but they are nice guides and way cheaper then fuji guides..

They are a bit fragile in my opinion.I have many rods tied with the Titans and that is my only complaint. If you are more respectful of your equipment than I am then they will be fine. They are extremely light!:tdo12:
