View Full Version : When are the PIKE likely to be in, given the cold late winter?

Now that I at last have the proper gear to target big pike, I'm all psyched to get at 'em, but given the unseasonably cold weather in the last month and a half, wouldn't be surprised if there isn't proper ice-free water until April.

When have you pike regulars noticed the action to really get going under conditions like these. Any hope of March action, or should I plan for early April to set aside some time off?

Remember that there are closed seasons for Pike on inland waters and it is also a ticketable offense to target some specie. As far as I know there is NO catch and release season for Pike.

Yes, I am planning on hitting the lower Detroit River, St. Clair, and/or Erie. If I recall correctly, all are open for pike & walleyes (& Erie for muskies, if there are any to be caught, not that I plan on taking any muskies!) all year.

Does the action tend to start earlier or later on the big waters? It stands to reason it would vary from location to location.
