I've posted a few times in the general forum regardinfg the baiting debate. I thought I'd bring the topic over here since this is a lil more neutral.

Anyway I guess I don't understand why people must agrue over hunting preferences. What suites one hunter does not suite them all. Not everyone that hunts can be a good woodsperson. I have the skills but have my own reasons why I bait, it really offends me to have another hunter say I'm not a true hunter because I don't walk the woods looking for a deer. I guess I feel if baiting isn't real hunting then neither is using all the semi automatics. The ole timers used muzzle loaders and bolt actions with perhaps one round. This is a new generation and there are many choices on how to hunt. One may prefer to scout, bait, or even go to a wild game farm. Who am I to say anyone is not a true hunter. If you can't shoot an animal with a lethal shot it doesn't much matter how you hunt. There are many people I see who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn but since they scout and walk that makes them a real hunter, I don't think so.

I guess what I'm trying to say I wish hunters would ban together for what we believe in and stop agruing over this trivial stuff. We need to learn to respect each other and our preferences in hunting. I mean no offence to anything but I feel this is a guy thing. Men like to argue over trucks, guns, dogs, etc. I guess I'm glad I'm a girl. I own a toyota truck, use bait, I'll shoot a doe, and don't care if I'm a real man when it comes to hunting. I do my thing my way and don't care who likes it. I hunt legally of course tho, lol. I'm not out to impress the guys with anything. And my ego doesn't get bruised. Well I wanted to sound off a little and see if any other ladies think on the same track. And guys I really meant no offence but you are too funny when it comes to agruing over this stuff. Born

I know what you mean, Born. At our camp, each has his/her own blind in their area to hunt. It's "do what ever you want". I like to bait. I get real picky about what I shoot that way. And I'm never bored because there's always some sort of animal to watch - even if it's only squirrels or blue jays. I just like being out there in the woods and enjoying nature. My husband doesn't bait, and most years he gets the biggest buck. But I see more deer than he does, and that's good enough for me.

I'm with you all the way Born, and have supplied a bit of the cross-fire in the forums. Mostly, though I think I stood up for those of us who hunt, with or without bait. <----<<<

Born,
Don't mean to cause a disturbance here but,
As long as baiting is leagle and your not harming anyone, go for it.
However if someone decided to start a bear farm on the property that is next to yours and put done a thousand pounds of gummy buns a day it would start to remove the bear population from your area and give them what I consider an unfair adavanage. Its still leagle but causes a problem. I won't try to deturmine what is considered a "true hunter" because I havent seen anyone in the woods yet in a breach cloth with grapes crushed all over them. So is the true hunter the native American of old?
I think technology has advanced us far beyond that. So what do we concider hunting ethics? I guess that is what was instilled in us by our fore-fathers. However some have never had the opertunity to receive that, so all that is left is the way the laws are written.
As a demacratic socity we are supposed to have the right to decide on the laws created by our elected representives. If we disagree with this we can petition them to have this changed.
However most Americans today won't get up off there keyboards to voice there oppinion. They would just complain about it.
So once again if its leagle and not hurting anyone "GO FOR IT" or have it changed.

Oct 1 I fully agree with you. Where I live many bait but we are surrounded by national forests here. If I were in a differant part of the state where there was farm country I may feel 100% differant regarding bait. Even if I had a piece of property where I could plant a food plot, who knows. The bottom line is just what you said, it's easy to voice an opion on here but if people really want to make changes you have to actually do something about it. The only thing I will add as strong as a "real" hunter feels about baiting think of all the anti's out there who dislike the other methods of hunting as well. Lets not give these people the fuel they need to take away all our hunting rights. The fight should be in preserving all hunters rights weather you agree with the method or not. In three years now I've seen but a few bucks and they were spike horns. I let them all go. I can not say my bait pile pulled all the bucks over my way. I do agree that scouting and sitting on run ways is more of a challenge but thats not for me at this time of my life so I choose baiting. Where's the love guys. To each their own. Live and let live. Oct 1,

Your last few sentences in your post are unfortunately so true. I saw that here when I posted about the Hunting Heritage Protecion Act. Only 3 members out of 500 here responded. How very sad that so few care.
