i've got a few questions about crappies.

right when the ice melts, what's the best bait for them?
are they usually in 10-14 foot of water at this time??
at what water temps do they start spawning?? isn't it usually in may/april??
Thanks,
Evan

Crappies in my part of the state spawn when the water warms to about 55 degrees. this usually takes place in may. This is not set in stone as the moon fase and other factors may alter the spawn cycle. Look for the very dark males in and around the weeds in 4' to 6' of water. These weeds do not have to be thick and wood or other litter on the bottom of the lake will also hold spawning crappies. While spawn is on a 1/32 or 1/16 oz pink jig with white skirt works very well.
