Looking to replace my 9 yr old MinnKota PD with a new unit.
Really want Autopilot feature. I'm OK with 55 lb thrust and 12V system. I have a 1650 Crestliner Fishhawk.
It's not obvious to me the pros-cons of the PowerDrive V2 compared to the Terrova? It looks like the Terrova is a newer design and a few more bucks. Some enhanced deploy feature on the Terrova.
Any opionions welcome (including, why aren't you looking at Motorguide?)
Also, best deals out there/ best places to buy? (not a local Metro, so more about internet sales or GM if possible).
Thinking about trying to help out the economy, but gotta pay a few bills first, so probably can't buy for a month of two.
Thanks!

PD 55 with auto pilot---$633.00 Terrova 55 with autopilot---$824
Power Drive will work just fine (I got one with auto and co-pilot) If you have the money Terrova would be better.

Thanks for the responses.
Do you find the Co-pilot feature is worth it??

I have the auto-pilot feature, and love it. When drifting the river, I aim the trolling motor into the wind with autopilot on, and only have to control the motor speed. Autopilot is also good for following a weed line.
Cable-steering units are useful if you're fishing around docks and need quick constant changes. I'm not sure how well they hold a course if you walk away to net a fish or grab another worm.
I've had three Minn Kota's and haven't had a problem with them.

Co-pilot, wouldn't be on the water without it. I love that thing. I use it more than the auto-pilot.

I'm in the market as well.
Mike, I've heard that the Co-Pilot can be slow to respond at times or has a tendency to over correct. Are these issues you've found with it?

I agree with Mike; If you got the money Terrova would be better. I love mine.
I got the Terrova and put it on my Ranger Bass boat. I was trying to sell my Ranger but no one wanted to give me my price. I was going to get a Walleye boat after selling my Bass boat. I turn my Bass boat into a Walleye catching machine. Of course I can't handle trolling in the 3 footers that's on large lakes but in the rivers and smaller inland land lakes, I'm doing pretty good. Slick fishing gave me a lesion on trolling the river that help me a lot. I say get the Terrova.
As far as Motor Guide compared to Minn Kota, I never own a Motor Guide so can't help there. I have own 3 different Johnson Elect. and I can say My Minn Kota and My bro-n-laws Minn Kota will out last (batteries hold up longer) any of the Johnson Electrics I've had. Tight lines.

It's asking Mike but I hope to spread a little light on the question and hope I don't step on anyone toes.
My Terrova responds very quickly. So responding slow or over responding; I have not notice and difficulty. There is one thing that I can report that I don't like and that might be what you are referring to. My Terrova, on auto pilot, when the power setting is set to a high setting, it goes crazy (back and forward) trying to stay on course. I just turn down the power a little until it stops going crazy. That's the only thing that I don't like about the Terrova. My bro-n-laws Minn Kota with auto pilot does the same thing. So I guess it's that way with all Minn Kota's auto pilots.

I don't have one, but it sounds like the higher speed it is causing it to overcompensate. It starts to correct itself and just overshoots the target.
I found this to be true even with my foot control. I find it better to have it set one speed slower and give it time to come around. It's easier for me to bump it a little as needed, faster speed and I am constantly turning the motor to straighten back out again.

It does overcompensate when real windy. Works super with no wind or just a little breeze. The windier it is the harder it has keeping straight by itself.
