Fowl assasination asked about an easy hex pattern. Here's something I've been using for quite sometime.
I won't bore you with the basic nymph tying, it's just a nymph with a little more detail

Once again I use a different texture between the abdomen and the throrax and with the hex I use a darker blend for the thorax. Actually the dubbing came from table scraps
Here's the key, find a neck hackle that's the right length and leave some marabou on the base of the stem

Get your lead wraps on the hook, bring the thread back add your fibbets for the tail, tie the feather with "cup" facing up and add your ribbing wire.
Take the lighter dubbing (Kaufman's scud dubbing in tan works really well for this pattern) and work it toward the eye.

Once the rib is in place fold the hackle forward, tie it off and add some nymph skin (facing toward the back of the fly) for a wincase

Use a dubbing loop for the thorax
Palmer the hackle toward the eye, tie it off and stroke the hackle fibers toward the side before folding the nymph skin over it.

Trim the skin and whip finish. I have tied this up to a size 6 for stained spring run-off. For larger versions I suggest stripped quills for the tail and even mono eyes for more detail.
