I have a 70 4-stroke Evinrude/Suzuki.
I changed the oil myself a number of times. It's just like changing the oil in a car. Except, getting filters is more difficult. Also, you need access to water for the inlet to hook up while warming the enging up; so it is a bit messier than on a car.
I like to change the filter everytime. Access to mine is pretty easy. Just take a few screw out and pull off one panel.
Good luck.
Getting that filter off is messy. I found that if I use a plastic bag, and hold it right, most of the mess goes into the bag. Not too bad of a job. The price we pay for a quiet motor, I guess. Change the filter every year. I didn't one time, and the new oil turned as black as the old oil was. I did the whole job again. That oil is very expensive.
