Saturday AM, Lake Charlevoix:

Hit the north arm of Lake Charlevoix. Man, it sure is getting daylight earlier, and I was running late to get out of bed and get out on the ice. Temps in the single digits again. I'm thinking to myself "Why didn't I take that trip to a warm tropical island this winter like I promised myself?" About 10 minutes into it I had a nice mark on the vex and had to work the fish for a tense minute or so before it finally hit ever so lightly. After a quick battle this 22 incher came up through the hole.

Never had another fish in for about an hour and a half so I packed it up and headed for home. I never saw another fisherman on the lake.

Saturday PM, Walloon lake:

Only had a few small perch in with a couple bites, but no fish hooked. I had a couple nice fish come in late, but it was after dark, and they only stayed in the hole a few seconds. I think I'm done with Walloon for the season.

Sunday AM, Burt Lake

I was out for a little revenge on the perch, as Crooked Dave had taken me out there earlier in the week where I lost a huge perch at the hole that spit 3 wigglers at me upon his departure. After a little map research the night before Dave and I headed out to a breakline where we hoped to start the morning with a few walleye. But the Burt walleyes weren't given it up for us this morning and we only caught a 9 incher between the two of us. Once the sun was up and shining we moved to Dave's wiggler bed spot where I lost the big perch. Upon setting up Dave managed to drop a nice rod and reel combo down the hole. I guess he'll be using the camera after all this year. Dave started us off with a nice jumbo perch, but after two hours of no bites (or rod and reel combo) we packed it up and headed for spot #3. Shortly after set-up I had a nice fish come in the hole. Looked to be a keeper sized walleye. I bet I worked that fish fish for 3 minutes and it just wouldn't hit. Just as I was yelling out to Dave, "headed your way..." He yells back "get the net." That fish swam over and immediately slammed his bait. I step out of the shanty to see Dave pulling this fat 14 incher through the ice. I can't believe he stole my fish like that.:sad::lol:

Unfortunatey, that was it for us for today. The fishing has sure slowed down the past couple of weeks, but hopefully as we move towards last ice things will pick up. Still, you can't beat a nice weekend out on the ice in northern Michigan.

...At least that is what my dad always told me. It's always great reading a JJ Mac report, but it's even better when you get to be a part of it. He forgets to mention the awesome breakfast he cooked up while I was trying to snag my rod/reel that is still sitting some 30+ feet below the ice. Never a dull moment when we get together and try to outsmart the fish. Tight Lines.

Nice whopper perch. Glad to see that you had a good time on Burt. I fish that lake all the time. Usually get one of two of those each time out.
Sunday afternoon was not good. Didn't even find a good rod and reel on the bottom of the lake:yikes:
