ive heard they haven't been doing to well on green lake for smelt but that should be changing here pretty soon as teh end of teh season comes around.
Chrystal lake is slowing down alittle bit off of lob road but my friend and i still made it out of there with ariund 60 smelt and acouple keeper perch for about 4 hours of fishing.

Minnowman myself and SFW1960 fished Crystal yesterday off Lobb road and didn't do squat. Few dink perch and maybe a dozen or so smelt, thats 2 weekends in a row where we've been basically spanked. We were in the middle of the smelt city to the left from the launch and right in the lights and still didn't do squat...............

OUCH!

The few we caught last week probably cost us about $30-$40 per smelt!:gaga: And then we gave them away!

I fished with minnowman all day yesterday and he told me they got between 50 and 60 smelt that night. We clobbered them all week on Crystal and took home almost 500 in 4 trips.

By the way Green Lake is a waste of time right now so don't go there. The best report I have heard (and I have heard from several guys) is 23 smelt in one night. Go to Crystal Lake because I have been hitting over 100 every night in less than 2 hours of fishing and all are between 6 and 10 inches. Go off of Lobb Rd. and there should be no problem at all. Day or Night, they are everywhere. Whatever you do, do not fish in the shanty city because you will not catch as much. That is a bad idea because all the smelt caught will be more dispersed amongst the large group of people and everyone will catch fewer smelt. Fish somewhere where you are not around anyone on about 50 ft of water. We killed the smelt in 45 ft of water and there was NO ONE near us. We got the fish all to ourselves. Glow Hali's w/ wax worms or a minnow head.......that's where its at.
