Just curious as to where guys go for perch out on Long Lake. I've heard of some big ones coming out of there. I know the walleye fishing has been real slow, but a few nice ones have been caught. Real hit or miss. Good Luck and tight lines!

Right off the Crescent Shores boat launch. You don't catch a lot but guys this year have taken several on tip-ups between 14-16". My buddy went out and caught a 13" incher on a tip-up out there. Use a 6lb flourocarbon leader, a single split shot 2 ft above the hook, and a small size 10 treble hook with a blue shiner. Fish in 26-34 ft of water.

I have been chasing those perch all winter. Got them a couple of times, down and up, 10 - 14" when you are on them. Wigglers and blues, top hook blue, bottom wiggler, 4lb flouro. I target the 40' range mostly, but they can be anywhere. I have been shut out too, so don't get discouraged. I move around until I locate them. First ice was good a couple of times at Crescent but then the crowd moved in. Islands, south end, Secor area, Girl Scout camp. They are getting ready to spawn soon, eggs are very loose in the females. They are really starting to school.

But where do perch spawn? I have read they string their eggs on weeds and the males fertilize them right during ice out. But what depth? Coontail seems to be in the 10 - 15' range and then there is the wire, bristly weed that grows deeper.

They spawn mostly in less than 2 ft of water. I toss jigs for them just about 3ft from shore and pop them back towards the boat and get some nice ones on Silver Lake and I know guys do the same in Long Lake. In Silver Lake, I look for the algae towers growing close to the shorelines in the early Spring right after ice-out.

I live on Silver, caught some nice eyes this winter. I know the perch are in there, caught a 15" couple years back, but I have yet to really find a big school. Drop me a PM with your personal info, I think we can probably put our two wits together and whack em, have 2 boats, will travel:) Oh, and an ice ready snowmobile!

Is there a public access/boat launch on silver lake? I have wanted to fish it for walleye and perch, but am not very familiar as to where to fish the lake, or even how to get on it. Thanks

West side, Traverse City area, Wally eye.

Yes there is an access off of E. Silver Lake Rd. A lot of guys fish the entrance to the cove that the access is in (easy walk), also to the North there is an island with a good weed bed on the north side. Most of the good fishing spots, or places I have caught fish are a ways away from the access. I like the south end of the lake near Brackel point and the island close by and the west side near the small island. I target 30' on up with my best luck in and around the weeds, 20 - 10 feet.

I drove down E. Silver Lake Rd. today and did not see any access. I did see a park to the right with basketball courts, is that what access your talking about? I may have just missed it. Do I have to take any turns off E. Silver Lake Rd? Thanks for the help

hi, The boat launch is about 1 1/2 miles s of the b-court. It is directly acrossed from the horse training facility. It is tucked between a sub division entrance and an entrance to a small trailer park. Hope this helps!
