I have never used one but I know a lot of guys who did with good success... their popular seemed to fade away a while back though... Only time I have seen them recently is when turkey hunting

I have used it on two deer. After I came to full draw on the first deer I closed my hand around the bow grip and the tracker string that was hanging down. When I shot the arrow did a couple somersaults on it's way to the deer.
On the next deer I made sure I did not grip the tracker string after I came to full draw, but I also did not grip the bow and proceeded to shoot the arrow and the bow toward the deer.

Shot a buck with a tracking string back in the day....it was pretty cool watching him take line out like a king! Don't hear about anyone using them these days.

We don't leave home with out them. I have had only one issue in the 9 or 10 years I have used them and that was as discribed in the post above "user error". If a minimum of care is taken when using and you practice, there should be no issues. It is not a stalking tool it is a sitting tool. I have both my boys using them and started them out dong so. By no means have we NEEDED to use them but it sure make finding deer more efficiant and even a little fun.
Think back at the many times you have looked for first blood. Found some evidence at the point of impact then the deer bounded quickly and not always where you wanted. The string even if it breaks will get you to a solid blood trail FAST. I have countless times followed the string directly to the animal in less than 5 min. where it might have taken 20 min to an hour. The quick turns and redirections-No problem. If you only have min. time each year to hunt and questionable weather is setting in do you sit in the cabin or go out anyway in hope it will not rain. The string does not melt.
While teaching my sons it has tought a few good lessons. Shooting over or under (lack of practice) is easy for them to see and adjust. Shots there less than stelar had been quicker harvests..
Like every other tool you use hunting you need to practice shooting with the string on. Care must be taken when attaching the string to the arrow once in the stand. Pull out a minimum amount of string. I have seen folks with 12 to 18" of sting dangling and you can count on that being one of many problem issues.
The only disapointing thing from my stand point is that they stopped making the small wire string connecting pc's. They were great and simple. Now you have to attach them behind the broadhead.
Please-if you use the string PICK UP THE SPENT STRING!
Try it you will like it.

I have used them on many deer without any problems.
Great tool if it is raining or hunting in the afternoon and rain is in the forcast.

They work great , some times the string might break in heavy brush but by than you should have a good blood trail. I use them all the time.

I`ve used it for many years, no affect on my arrows out to 30 yrds. and I`ve shot thru the window on my doghouse blind no effect on arrow flight. Mike

The positive is what I have heard mostly. I have to close my left eye when I shoot (I am right handed left eye dominate), and I figure it would help me not wonder where my arrow went after shooting. I am pretty confident in my shooting (if I weren't I wouldn't hunt), but I thought it would help me be just that much more confident.
