Just thought I would post this because it was sooo cool looking. If you get a chance, take a drive down to St Clair shores and look at all the ice piled up along the shoreline from the Coast Guard station down past Jefferson Beach Marina. It is truly amazing !!! :chillin:
It looks like it is doing a bit of damage too in spots !!!!
Last night, the ice actually looked "iridescent blue" which was spectacular ! I forgot my camera, so we went back there today to snap these (but it is much cooler looking "live" :chillin:

Wow.... Cool Robert! Were you drilling on the stacked up stuff ???? With it stacked up like that there is no telling how deep it goes  Did you do well???? Pressure cracks and ridges can be really good spots.... and I guess that would qualify as the mother of all ridges
Meanwhile, there were a couple of shanties set up inside the jam by the mouth there, but they were on the "flat ice". Don't know how they did....
Also, gotta admit :chillin: we had this strange longing to go out and climb all over those ice piles  It was so neat looking and my pictures do NOT do it justice !!!
Best regards,
Laura

the one at emerald city has a smooth slab on the lake side of the jam, the sheet just rode up the pack. I had to climb it, got the best view oft the lake.

Hey guys be careful climbing the high shoves. I'm not sure if it's that dangerous on St Clair. However, I lived in Grand Haven for several years. What happens is that the water can actually create a blow hole on the outboard side of the shove due to the action of the water.
Basically, it can form a big funnel that goes straight down into the water. You fall into one of them and your not going to get out until spring thaw. Just a word of advice.
