What is the best way to get started brewing your own beer?

What are some helpful books/articles to get going and progress to more complex brews?

Thanks for any help!

Here is the best place to start John Palmer’s book How To Brew. http://www.howtobrew.com/

Palmer takes you right into brewing your first batch of beer with simple equipment. Later in the book he explains the finer points of brewing such as; hops, yeast, all grain vs extract, specialty grain etc.

Palmer’s book is the New Testament of home brewing.

Also this forum is a great place to ask questions, we'll help you though it.

Charlie Papazian's 'The Complete Joy of Homebrewing' is a great book.

Both of these are excellent suggestions but I would add that paying close attention to the articles on cleaning and sanitising is important to avoid anything that would lead to off flavors in your first beer- might throw off a first timer with bad beer.
Oxy clean and bleach are two good inexpensive choices for cleaning and sanitising.
www.Brewery.org has links to some good articles on brewing.
