Started reading the first thread and I thought I'd share my secret with you guys on smelt fishing on Higgins Lake. Learned this from an older fella awhile back. When the smelt are in the top 30 feet of the water column, try pissing in your hole, the ammonia(sp?) in your urine, I'm guessing at least that is what the old man said, turns these fish on like no other and brings them to the top of the hole(10 feet dwon) in a feeding frenzy. Now this takes about a minute to as the urine needs time to spread and distribute and the smelt feed for about 15-20 minutes after and of course you can repeat. Try this out and you will be surprised. I always have two holes, one for the urine and the other to fish through for the obvious reason of bring fish through the pee hole! Smelt are starting to pickup a little but still maybe 10 days away or when we start the ice melt season. Good luck.

ps. Does not work on perch-tried it. And it works on Crystal as well for smelt.

Maybe there's some scent on your hands that's getting transferred to your bait while you're handling your wax-worm????
