I have had my Jiffy model-30 for more than 18+ years and have little to no problem with it...
Yesterday the gear box blew out of it and I was wondering if any one has rebuilt one before... now I'm not complaining that this happened to it, very happy with it performance over the years... only one change on the spark-plug... and no other maintenance, other than emptying the fuel mix out after every ice season....
I looked at the web site all ready and was wondering if the model-30 is the same as the one they were building back when I had purchased mine...[gear-box][parts]?????
Any help would be great.....
Thanks
Rob

Not sure on Jiffy brand, but I just rebuilt my Eskimo Piranha transmission and it took less than an hour.
I tried to order trans at first and way to pricey, $ 167 delivered. I took trans apart and found that I broke five teeth off the gear(only three gears in there)
I bought the replacement for 40 bucks with shipping.
Put it back together with new lube and it works great.
I think someone here will know more about jiffy.
So bump.

before cutting a lot of hole make sure your gear box has some lub in it... I think I took mine for granted by not checking it every year.... but no harm no foul... it was and it will be a good auger soon....
I have not looked into it so far but next week I'll break it a part an see what kind of damage I caused....

The parts for your model 30 should be available from Jiffy. The last one I had to rebuild was about three years ago. They may need to have your serial number, or they will want to know if you have a top handle on the engine or if yours is a side handle.
The lube that is in your gear box should be a lube that is know as 00 grease. It will manitain its consistancy at most temps. Unless you see grease leaking out of the gearbox, you should not have to add lube to the gearbox.
Hope this helps. Give Jiffy a call. If for some reason they do not have the parts on hand, there is a lot of dealers on the internet that will have the older parts on hand.

My jiffy has been drilling holes for as long as yours has, and I have no complaints. Just like you I drain the gas out of it, and start it up and let it sit until it quits, pull the plug and spray alittle wd-40 in the hole, pull the recoil acouple of times, and put it away for the summer. And I know it will start next winter.
I watched a guy yesterday on the river trying to drill holes with a new auger, it looked like a Jiffy but I'm not sure it was, it was a 4 cycle. He had so much trouble starting the thing, then it would stop while he was drilling, There was a guy behind him using a Lazer hand auger that was drillling faster than he was. Let us know how, and where you find parts for yours. Thanks

going to take it apart some time this week and see what kind of damage I caused.... talked to a friend today, He said most liky the clutch blew out of it...??? He also said that the parts shouldn't be that hard to find or get a hold of... hoping for a simple quick fix...

If it acts like it's stuck in gear (direct drive), then it's most likely a clutch spring. Mine failed after about 15 years. Emailed feldman engineering and they sent me a brand new clutch kit for about 12 bucks, but that was about 4 or 5 years ago. In the email to them, I described the symptoms so they new exactly what the problem was, which took out the guess work. You may need a gear puller to get the old one off, or if you're creative you can devise some other method to get it off.
