Anyone Been Out Recently On Lakeville Or Lake Orion. Water Conditions On Lsc Have Been Too Cloudy For Me And We Have Had A Slow Start To The Year.
Was Wondering How Anyone Else Did Out There, Thickness Of The Ice, And If There Are Any Trouble Areas For A Quad/ Shanty Out There.
Thanks For The Info In Advance.

I live right next to Lake Orion, and the sleds are on there all hours of the day, it froze over late this year, but as far as I know, its plenty thick. I haven't heard any reports of late so I can't give you any info on how they are doing. Best bet would be to call Hook line and sinker and ask, he's pretty good about giving up to date info on lake conditions, and fishing reports. Lake Orion never seems to get fished that hard in the winter, but then again, I think a lot of that stems from the lack of quality fish in the lake. Good luck

Thanks, Is Hook Line And Sinker A Bait Shop? If So, What Types Of Bait Do They Have There? Minnows, Waxies, Mousies?
I Saw That Sattelite Image Of The Ice Moving Out On Lake St Clair And It's A Little Un-nerving. Want To Head Inland And Try Our Luck. Know Of Any Good Fishin Inland Lakes In That Area?
Thanks In Advance

Hook Line and Sinker is a nice little bait shop and has the bait you mentioned. I am thinking of trying out that lake myself tomorrow.

Which Lake Are You Thinking About Trying Lakeville Or Orion?

thinking of going to Lake Orion in the afternoon into the evening I'm still debating if I should try LSC I haven't been there yet this year but with the latest ice conditions I don't know if I want to risk going out there. I wan't to try for walleye in the evening and I don't think heading into deeper water by myself is such a good idea.

Guys, I'm by no means an expert on either lakes, but I grew up in the Orion/Oxford area my whole life, but traditionally speaking the fish in lake orion are small, and there is a lot of pollution in Lake Orion. If it were me and I had to fish one of these two lakes, I'd go to lakeville in a second, its full of big pike, and even walleye. Its smaller, and cleaner too. That being said, if it were me, I'd skip both those lakes and hit up Squaw Lake in oxford, its got lots of pike in it and would keep you busy all day long. I used to spear it a lot til I got on a private lake that held bigger fish. If its panfish you're after, run over to long/cedar or tan lake. These lakes are chain lakes (squaw, cedar, long, tan lakes). There is a spot called pike hole over on cedar, and it usually is a good spot to get both pike and gills. Good luck.

this is the first I've heard of a lot of pollution on Orion I'm curious now of what the source of the pollution would be to make it to make it worse than other lakes. I know all lakes have some form of pollution ....just how bad is it ?

probably not much worse than most oakland co lakes. Not sure of the status now but years ago the DNR had it on fish advisory, only so many meals a month etc. 100 years ago L O was a resort town and the lake was built up with summer cottages. Sewage pipes ran right into the lake. Even in the 1970's it was funky. There's a pic in the latest MON of a 9 lb+ eye taken this winter.

for that info and confirming about the walleye population in there. I have heard of some nice walleye coming out of there. I also looked in the fish advisory book and it seems there are no special restrictions on any one fish species just the general advisory.

If you want wigglers don't head to Hook Line and Sinker, he don't carry them. I went in there last week and he said he hasn't gotten a report for a weeks. He says they're getting nice perch out of the private lakes. A lot of good that does most of us.

I wouldn't go out to Lake Orion with the intentions of catching walleye......I think its strictly a "by accident" fishery. As for pollution, its probably not much different then many other popular lakes in Oakland County, but it did used to have a high mercury content. I'd never eat anything from lake orion, its a sewage pit in the summer and I've seen enough crap floating in it to keep me content on fishing elsewhere. Let me put it this way, I've lived in the area for all of my 28 years, and haven't once fished out there through the ice. Thats gotta mean something. :D

well I didn't fish LO yesterday and I also asked a friend about what chuckinduck mentioned and he agreed he wouldn't fish it either. Looks like I will skip that lake there are plenty others to fish for walleye. My friend also mentioned it seems very oxygen deprived too.
