BITE YOUR TONGUE!!!

Seriously though, if you're in close (less than 1/2 mile) is this really a concern on a non-windy day?

Looks like a West wind at 10 - 20 on Saturday. I have been fishing out there for a couple of years, but do not know what is/is not safe as far as the wind blowing ice out goes. Anyone care to share what they are willing to go out in?

I'll be at Gino's on Sunday regardless of the wind. Got a bunch of newbies goin out with me. We'll probably be 1/2 mile out. That chunk that blew out was probably the 5" sheet. The remaining sheet is probably all at least 10".

More than 10", there are trucks out in front of beacons cove. From the 400 club south that's were you can see open water. All I can saw is I'm ready for the boat to be out and start jigging for walleye:D North of Selfridge looks like it will fine even with a west wind as long as we don't get a north west wind.

I was out at Ginos today. I went out pretty far with no problems. I was probably 400 yards from the crack. Only caught one keeper (9 inches) and one dink:sad:. I dont like the look of that satelite photo.

If it weren't for the warm-up this weekend it might have locked right back up. Who knows how it will look come Tuesday. The big sheet along shore should be good.

That sheet that drifted away was already broke off for a couple of days. The lake just had to open up a little more so it could float away.

Anyone care to share what they are willing to go out in?I think the ice on the other side of the pressure crack will go first. Stay on the west side of the crack and you should be ok. Once that other piece goes,,,,then youll have to be carefull. I cant go till tuesday,,,hope it sticks around till then. Good luck!

If you want to see where alot of that ice blew to, take a drive down to the Shores.... from Michigan Harbor down past Jefferson Beach Marina. Especially at the mouth of the canal by Jacks :yikes: .....AWESOME!!!! Piles of jagged "blue" ice tonight....
I hope to get some pictures tomorrow morning....It is REALLY incredible :chillin:
Meanwhile, be safe at Metro and Gino's

Ahhh,, not really,,, about 50/50. Haven't really had any complete "busts" on our side,, but I've never been over to the other side.

Be careful....you're not dealing with nice clear hard ice. The ice at Cotten Road is about 10" thick but its the soft white stuff. When a quad drives past my shanty 300 ft away it makes the water in my hole rise and fall. My ice saw cuts thru it like butter....there is no way I would put my truck on it anywhere this season.
I would'nt tempt the ice gods this year....you might get your a** kicked.....
