Well spring has sprung and the critters are a moving. I am starting to see more deer as they move from there winter deer yards back to their summer grounds. All this makes think think of this falls hunting and all the fun I'll have. But what to do till then?
I was wondering what everyone dose to fill the void of hunting when the season is not yet open.
I for one do alot of fishing and four wheeling. I shoot the bow in the yard at my deer target or my guns at the range. And of course you have to check out this falls hunting grounds for deer sign and see if that big guy is around. And perhaps on one of those rainy days play a hunting game or two on the ole puter to indulge in the thrill of shooting bucky even if it's just pretend.

Hi Trout, congrats on your new forum. If you like mushroom picking you should try up here in the UP, we have lots.
As for the excuse for hunting well get the wife involved maybe she will turn into a hunting fool like myself, LOL.
Happy hunting, Born.

She hunts now but not as much as I do I think she looks forward to having the house to herself now and then.We will have to check out the U.P. sometime.I would love to move up there.I am begining to think the U.P is the place to be.

Some fishing, but mainly dream about deer hunting, learn and study deer biology and scout new areas.

born2hunt65,what part of the U.P. do you live in? I don't know where Marenisco is.

Family vacations, fishing (of course), and ARCHERY. I shoot as often as possible. I just got a new recurve and am trying to become proficient with this instinctive bug. All my kids shoot too, including my daughter who just turned 7. She will be a hunter one day too. I have to tell you this story. Once, all of us were out fishing. My daughter was doing excellent, as the boys were constantly bickering. So I said, " ya know...next time I am leaving you two boys at home so your sister and I can fish in peace. When we got back, and were walking down the dock she whispered to me "Dad, I dont care if the boys don't go fishing anymore, but can they still go humting with us???" I almost died, she was only 5 at the time too :) <----<<<

I keep the grass and shrubs under control in about a 14 acre plot at my church, which leaves very little time for fun in the summer, but we are going to get back into camping, so that when a weekend off does come aroung, we can just boogy off into the distant woods or some lake.

Joe sounds like you are a lucky man. It's great that you are so involved in the outdoors and are teaching your children. It's too bad other parents do not do the same. As for your little girl sounds like shes on her way to being quite the huntress and fisherwomen :).
Sarge I know what you mean keeping up a lawn especially one that big is time comsuming. Good to hear you do find a little time to enjoy yourself, that is important. Have fun camping this summer. Born

It obviously goes with out saying that most of us during our spare time are doing something that relates to the outdoors all year long.

My biggest "share time" project right now revolves around my desire to harvest some white pine trees from our property in the northern lower pennisular. The plan is to use these logs as purlins in a new house we are building on the property.

I have constructed a crane to lift the logs onto a bunker so I can shave them and shape then into proper dimension to fit the roof. My neighbor thinks I am crazy and can't understand why anyone would want to take on this much work. Work? This is just plain fun for me.

This summer will be T-ball. I volunteered to coach my sons t-ball team this year. Two games a week through July then a vacation or two. That brings me real close to Sept. Time to get ready to go on a fishing trip. Just like that it's time to go hunting again.

Reply to 'Trout': You may try the reason ('excuse') -- "Because my eyes are in the front of my head -- I'm SUPPOSED to hunt" (from that t-shirt message describing the difference between predator/prey.)

Anyway, for off-season excitement, I hunt turkey, fish, canoe, hunt 'shrooms', fish, keep tract of deer and turkeys with binocs and cameras, fish, keep my bow and guns sighted in and me in practice by shooting often, scout, and if I have some time, FISH.

I'm so happy to have recently found this site -- it's nice to be able to 'converse' with others of like-mind pertaining to love of the shooting sports! THIS IS GREAT!!!
