I do enjoy a tasty Pike. I need some help finding some good pike waters in Sothern Lower Michigan. Most the Lakes I have been fishing have lots of hammer handles rarely a keeper/eater do I come by. Or is it because I work shallow water 10 feet or less?

No, it is more likely because of the over harvesting of larger pike. The biggest predator of pike is pike. Take the big ones out and you end up with a lake over run with hammer handles and stunted panfish.

You hit it right on the head there ESOX, thats why i say catch and release the big fish and if you want to keep a few keep the slot type fish:fish:
what area in lower mi? it would help if you fill out your profile. K

Thanks all you guys!
I like to eat my fish, so I do not like the bigger fish and release them when ever possible. I do keep "eater" fish and that is what I am looking for.
I say Southern Michigan...because I don't mind traveling...I have been to baw-beas and like that a lot...but do not fish the same lakes to often.
I have also fished Devils and done well there. Used to get them on Four Mile and in Silver Lake Washtenaw county. but like the other man said "over fished" In fact bluegill fishing I watched as some folks on shore would run out on four wheelers and grab the pike big or small and haul them back to shore. Lost my taste for that lake. But did report it to the DNR.
Always looking for new water or what is over the next hill.. :dizzy:
Good luck and be safe!!

As crazy as it may sound the best tastin pike I've had are from Kent Lake in Livingston/ Oakland county. There's big and little ones but the 27- 32 inchers are abundant and taste like chicken. I bake em whole in the oven after removing the mudveins? and belly fat.
