Was out on Simcoe this past w/e working some of my GPS laker/Whitefish spots and got a real surprize..... my new PB Walleye estimated at 15lb or more. My previous best was a 13.5lb fish taken from Quinte and few years back and it was definately dwarfed by this gut busting eye laiden female Walleye. 3 other anglers came over to see the fish and figured it was at least 15lbs of more as they have taken a 12lb fish before and said it was so much smaller then this one. I released her after a couple of quick pics and still can't believe I was able to pull her out of the hole!! I was working the bottom slowly with a jig in approx. 50ft of water.

just as amazing as the size of the fish is the fact of how healthy it looks!!! i've seen 10 and 12 pound fish that look like they would not have made it another year. i wonder how many of those jumbo simcoe perchies he's been eatin?!

Slayinm, beautiful fish!!!!!!!! Where did you pick her up between thor and georgina? I don't know if you remember but a couple of years ago I asked you if anybody caught walleye on Simcoe. In Feb 2001 I caught a monster walleye that weighed 14#+ that sat around for 2 days before I got home to weigh it. I caught mine in about 35fow. Congrats on a great fish.

Congrats on a very fine catch! Now that's what a 15 lb. eye looks like. We had a rumor going around here that a guy got a 15 lb. eye out of a local lake, when I went and saw the pictures it was only 5 lbs. Yours could have eaten his whole. I would have had to put that one on my wall too, what kept your from doing that is what I want to know? It is awesome that another angler will get the chance at that fish one day, but I'm not so sure they will make the same decision you did. I do however commend you on your sportsmanship.

hey, all these replies and not one person has commented on the lure. it looks like a custom lure along the lines of either a fiskas balance or a meegs.i haven't seen one like it before.

Yea i probably would let it go unless it was a state record fish then i would have hard time releasing ;)
What a catch! I think someone else asked the question, but did you get a chance to measure that bad boy? I would freak out if I landed one that big! :yikes:

Okay guys, back to the jig. I havent found it yet. I've checked the bait shops in Northern Michigan & on Cabelas web.Even Google cant find it. The humpback Creeper is the clostest thing but it doesnt look the same. I use all Rapala's anyway but now its personal.

TGF, I guide on Simcoe and other local lake year-round and have spent 1000's of hrs on the big lake and only ever caught 3 nice Walleye... all incidental while targetting other species. I took this one in 48' between Georgina and Thorah working one of my subtle depth points for Lakers. The other 3 guys that witnessed the fish figured (as I do ) that it weighted closer to 17 or 18lbs....considerably bigger then my 13.5lb BOQ fish.... no comparison at all. If you go to the Talbot in April you can see all kinds of big Walleye's in the teens spawning so there are certainly lots more out there!..... Greg.

XXXdisel77, Well.... I have a 13.5lb Walleye on the Wall and although this fish was closer to 17lbs I just wanted to get her back in the water asap.... I figure she had 4 to 5lbs of eggs in her and would make me sick to kill a fish like that..... Had I had a tape I would have measured her and could have got a replica done..... oh well..... I have the pics and the memories.... Greg.

Guys.... the lure is the new (for 2008) Foxee Minnow humpback by Blue Fox.... this is one of 2 colours I designed for them. The smallest version of the same colour is awesome on Jumbo's!!.....
Good luck out there.... Greg.
