Gonna Head Out To Metro Beach Back Basin On Thursday. Never Fished There Before. Was Wondering If I Can Launch My Shanty In That Boat Launch Next To The Basin. Like I Said, Never Even Knew That Lauch Was There, And Don't Know If I Can Use It. Also, Is The Ice Just As Safe In There As At The Day Sail Ramp.

Would Appreciate The Info On The Basin Guys. Oops, And Girls.

Thanks In Advance.

The ice can be tricky when you cross to the small island so be carefull and spud your way because it is deep in some areas there.

avoid the area in front of the two houses across and a little to the right looking off the boat launh ramps. that canal coming in at the house on the fight is from the clinton river. rarely ever safe. better off launching off seawall at the point nearest eastern end of island. snow in your favor, follow tracks or ask someone. guluck

Any good reports from there lately? That's usually a first ice / last ice deal for me. Usually the perch "tot lot" mid season, right??

I would avoid trying to cross around into the basis from the launch. Fished the basin Monday evening until 7:00pm. I fished the t dock area - action was steady but miost were 6 to 7 inches. best fishing and largest came from 6:30 -7:00pm. Bite was on spikes. Nothing came off waxes or minnows - also tried minnow head with no luck. Kept 10 at 8" - I did not have wigglers

Ice was a good 10". I would look for the best slope on the basin side and go from there.

Using the X67 I had alot of fish on the screen but a very tuff bite. dead stick only had a couple of bite. fishing were looking for movement to attract them to it but would only hit the jig still and after a long pause.

Best color was yellow with a small hard red bead tip with spikes. Soft bead
only got 1 fish.

I did not drive down to the launch and around the point as it was to dark. The ice is allows iffy there and first time towing a heavy shanty is a good way to get wet.

Always walk on the south side of the island. walk off the low finger docks or from the main parking lot. work along the south shore. don't get fooled by the group of shanties on the east side, they are always there. me and jacob caught fish but they were small. fun place. alot of small fish. larger ones can sometimes be 2' off the bottom. I like silver/red bead and a spike.

Wouldn't it be safer to launch at the day sailor ramp instead of the main boat launch in the lagoon? Last year it was one of the last areas to loose its ice. The only problem was that all that we were able to catch was dinks. We tried it once this year and we didn't catch anything. I would rather be catching dinks as opposed to not catching anything so I may end up back there when the ice starts to disappear.
