Somehow I caught a laker on a genz bug Sunday at Metrobeach. I lost him when I was trying to get him through the hole. 2Lbs. test, he did two head shakes and was gone. I almost cried. 8-9 Lbs'er I'm guessing. Fought him for at least 20 mins and he absolutley trashed my rod. I guess it made up for the hours of catching dinks all day... Pretty kewl.

I'd be sursprised if that was a laker. Not saying it wasn't but I've heard about steelies being caught over the past few seasons...

Especially since you were close to the Clinton R. Probably about to run up the river. That would be sweet. Wish you could of had him.

Well I believe it was a laker... It might have been a steelie... I'm not a trout guy... Needless to say it was my first on the ice.

it was more than likely steele. my dad and i have pulled them through the ice a few times throughout the years. my first one i had on was when i was out at cotton rd after dark and it broke off when i was using an old plastic wiggler imitation. (the biggest i had on through the ice). when we do get one, though, it is a tasty bonus! usually get at least one every other year. my dad got one last year while fishing between 9 and 10 mile. was about 19 inches.

A few years back I was trolling for muskie in November and caught a 16lb king. He hit a 11'' black cisco kid in the channel by the dumping grounds. I'm sure he was heading to a river.

Lake Trout is entirely possible; I caught one last fall while casting for smallmouth out by the firecracker- about a 7#er, hit a green tube. And yes, i,m sure it was a laker.

Lakers, steelies, salmon, wipers  in Lake Saint Clair .....Those are all SWEET catches.
I can attest to a beautiful steelie I hooked through the ice just 75 yards straight out from the launch at Brandenburg a few years back. Drilled, dropped a wiggler down (3 fow) and WHAM... Had that beauty on for about five minutes:
To the hole... past the hole... streaks of silver and iridescent pink.... the spots.... the tail.....the pinging of my 2 lb test.... the scream of the drag.... the scream I made when he finally broke off :yikes:

Thanks for the report, bummer that he broke off but man you'll always be thinking....someday I'm going to get another chance !!!! ;)

Could also have been a brown. There was one caught in the horseshoe late last week, 6# . I had a steelie smack a ken's about a month ago about 100 yds from where the brown was caught. Have seen them there years past.
