it will be hard to tow anything by hand but this snow will insulate the ice...the sun is our enemy and she cant do any damage until the snow is gone...:):)

Would rather have no snow on the ice. It only makes slush pies and hides all the bad spots and does not allow ice to form because of the insulation. IMO snow sucks. Nothing good about it except if your tracking a deer or have a plowing buisness.

Nothing good about a plow business this year, it's kept me from fillin the freezer so far! I still have another 6 weeks on contract but it seems like this winter could last till June right now!!!!
I love the ice fishing, but I'd rather be on the bay grabbin my 6 too!!

i suppose your cooler keeps your beer warm for you? my cooler makes the ice in it last longer not shorter...insulation works both ways

I heard the fish feed longer when theres snow on the ice. Something to do with the light.

You got that right. Along with other obligations and the snow, I haven't been out as much as I would like.
I hear we will have a cold March and April with maybe 2 storms in April.

The bright side is that it will all melt soon and flow back into the lake. The lakes all need their levels to rise. I look at all those snowstorms with a distant joy from my current job in AZ knowing that the lake levels will be higher when I come home in the spring. Does make for tough walking and dragging on the ice I will agree.

Not exactly true. The snow will insulate the ice from the air temperatures. But, it will not prevent the sun's light from penetrating through and into the water. Even with a blanket of snow the sun light will slowly start to warm the shallow waters.
And, we are getting a minute or two more of daylight each day and the sun is slowly climbing higher into the sky. Spring is coming, slowly but steadily.

Well, if we were going to have warm temperatures...the snow would be good because it would insulate the ice from the warm air. But since the temps have been cold the insulation is not good, we want the ice to be cooled by the cold air. There are so many variables. The denser the snow the less it insulates, because there are more pockets of air inside the snow. 5 inches of fluff will insulate better than 5 inches of the stuff we have now...which might be good.
The most icemaking we had was 2 weeks ago when all the snow melted and then re-froze...hopefully the same happens with this snow.
But I think there is a much worse outcome other than the snow on the ice...all the saltwater that's coming downstream!!! All the salting they did last week for the little bit of snow is being flushed into the rivers along with all the salting they did for this snow. It doesn't really matter how much snow is on top when the saltwater is melting it from below. It doesn't look good on the satellite. But I'm sure the shores will be ok. There goes tryin to get out far!
