Just bought an Arctic Cat quad and was wondering if anybody has made an auger mount for the speed rack.

They make one but I really don't feel like paying a couple hundred bucks.

I know I can buy the ones that bolt on but I wan't to utilize the speedrack.

I was in the same boat as you, I didn't want to spend that kind of money on them. I seen them at Gander and I thought they looked cheap and fragile.
Are you planning on making it out of metal or wood? I made one out of finished oak 1 x 6. The base being 12" long, with 8" pieces standing length ways. I put 3 screws in thru the bottom of the base, and 4 "L" brackets for side support. I cut a slot in the top, for the chain housing area to fit in snugly and a smaller slot for the auger part to fit into. The bolt holes are patterned to fit in the square holes of the speed rack. A bungee cord to make sure it doesn't bounce up. I finished it off with 3 coats of laquer. Looks good, very functionable and it cost me $20 in material.

If you look in my gallery at the photo "ice rig" you'll see the box I made for my front rack. It holds my power auger on top with two short bungies - inside the box is where I keep my dipper, tip ups and a couple jigging rods for quick access.;)

I like the box idea and I might have to make something like that for my Sportsman500, and i think from the looks of the box I might be able to come up with a Mount to hold my auger on my jet sled...
