$40/lb sounds like a great deal for catching on your own. Last time out had to buy new heater, forgot the chairs had to buy an additional bucket, bought some jigs, wigglers, waxies, minnows, and chubs, along with food and drink. 3 fish @ about .5 lb. My math says $300/lb. I'd love to get that down to $40/lb

LOL!!!! I love this thread, because it seems as if catching your own fish does cost way more than buying them at the market. The only thing is how much fun can one actually have buying them at a market. I don't know about you all, but catching them is worth all the extra time and money IMO. Plus to know that you put dinner on the table with all of your hard work and efforts just makes it that much tastier. I have had folks try and buy my fish on the ice, and it cracks me up. I feel sorry for them and end up giving my bag away at times. That is if I see the guys putting in a lot of effort and not reaping the rewards. I then talk to them and try to teach them proper technique, best equipment to use, etc... It feels good to pass on valuable information that can bring happiness to others.

Thanks for the kind words guys. :irked: ;) Hey, every once in awhile I get my cost down. This turned out to be about 30 lbs of fillets and my out of pocket cost was approx $180. Unfortunately, Jr and I ended up with about 10 lbs and the crew made off with about 20. I guess I'm back up to $18/lb. But hey, there is nothing better than landing on a school of Perch that are on a feeding frenzy!

You know those spots change year to year, month by month, day by day. Heck, sometimes even hour by hour! I’ll still take your whipping spot though. :) I’m quite experienced at it. I’ve done it once! :chillin:

Hey, I caught one while I was awake too! :D Man, fighting that fish on an 11 ½ foot noodle rod was something else. I thought I had Moby Dick! Too bad Jr beat it off with the net. I think he learned that trick from Explodingvarmints. :p

Matt can single handedly defend the complete perimeter of the boat from any fish trying to come aboard and uses a net as his weapon of choice!!
