Just got back from Florida this week and while I was there i contributed to their DNR buy purchasing a salt water and fresh water license. I took the hunting and fishing guide and read through it one night. They have some great programs for their residents and children. One that stood out and I wish we had it here, was to be able to purchase lifetime license for children!! 0-4 years old cost $400.00, 5-12 years old $1,000.00- gets them a lifetime of fishing and hunting licenses!!

Talk about a great system for all!! It gets the government a boat load of money up front to work with (by age 4...who knows who will use it or not) and it is one hell of a gift to that child!! I wish we had a system that could see the benefits of a program like that!!

I know we had something like it many moons ago...but this shows a dedication to the sport and gets children a chance at a wonderful gift!

Yea would be nice to have programs like that here but this is michigan it will probably never happen. I remember that lifetime fishing license they had a long time ago, wonder why the ended that program.

I just moved back from Florida after living there for 10 years. The licencing fees and tiers are well thought out. What they really do well is fish breeding. Their share the lunker program really helps the hatcheries breed a better, faster growing, stronger , and longer living fish. But then again. Their fisheries are much larger than ours. Especially the saltwater side of it. There is areas on the salt that you just can't fish in. Which helps keep a breeding population untouched by anything other than natural selection. That we don't have and would probably not work well on our great lakes. Hence our seasons. Florida has no season for freshwater fish, but do for saltwater. Plus fish grow twice as fast down there . Especialy the Florida strain of largemouth. So do them dang gators .

The really good part for a resident down there is not needing a salt license if you are fishing from shore, wading, or from a pier or bridge. The bad part is they lose a lot of funds by not charging even 5 bucks.

I would love to to be able to buy a lifetime fishing/hunting license. Although I dont have kids I am sure I would buy them in advance as well.
