If your ice fishing St. Joseph county do not leave anything in your vehicle, I left a small case with all my back up gear in the back seat of my Z-71 only to return and find my side window popped open and the other side damaged as well. I know this was my fault for leaving it behind but just be aware. The police were contacted but I am not going to file a report for $100 worth of gear, a window latch and a seal for the window. This happened on Pleasant lake.

It don't matter where the thieves will strike. It's too bad it had to happen, but these scumbags will bust in anywhere you are parked. It's sad to think it was one of the fishing brethren.

Not sure what your deductible is, but can claim anything stole from vehicle on your homeowners insurance.

No its not your fault! It was Yours! I dont care if you left it on the hood of your truck, it was still yours! Great world we live in. Well at least they didnt get everything.

I think I'm more ticked that I was robbed than actually losing my gear and the window latch and seal. I'm not blaming anyone on the ice as it could have been anyone, it's just sad that people can't leave another's property alone. I would love to catch someone in the act, maybe a little deep woods jury is what they need. I guess it could have been a lot worse so I'll take my lumps and learn from it.

At least you still have your truck. Look at the guy that had it ALL stolen.

Sad that people do crap like that.

I feel lucky I go out fishing all day sometimes and don't even lock my truck, and I leave the keys under the mat.

I live "up north" though.

Don't take the "I guess its my fault" approach. We sould be able to leave anything unlocked and not have to worry. After being a victim a few times, i've learned to keep stuff locked up. Its no guarantee, but it will help.

Does anyone know what rights the vicitm has if they catch the perp(s) in the
act? If I catch them in the act, do I have the legal right to bring bodily harm and pain to them?

A few years ago my aunt and uncle were fishing on Miner Lake near Allegan in the summer and someone broke into their van and took what they thought was probably a daily planner with some credit cards and drivers license in it, but it was my uncle's Bible. We actually kind of got a laugh out of it imagining the culprit seeing the irony in it and turning his life around! I HATE thieving!!!

I've been hit before by thieves and I know how it feels . Would have been worth losing my stuff if I could have caught them in the act . Dont know how anyone has the conscience to steal another fishermans gear . I would love to give them 40 whacks with my jiggin stick :smile-mad

This is my first post. 3 of us went out off of state park on saturday only to return to our trucks and find that someone had stolen our fourwheeler ramps. Not fun seeing that we live 2 hours away and had noway of loading our fourwheelers.

Sorry for the loss, next time put them on the ground, and drive the back wheels of the truck on them. This may help, or will just slow down the scumbags.
