When you were a kid

Remember back when you where a little guy and the critters you used to catch. I was a little tomboy I caught everything from bugs to racoons. I've had rabbits, racoons, snakes, turtles, mice and so on for pets. I always released them so they wouldn't become too dependent on me but I sure had fun. My dad kinda didn't like the racoons since they tended to get into things they shouldn't have but hey I was a kid. Now my little guy is the same way. But mom is still just as bad. I will bring him home snakes and turtles to check out then we let them go by bedtime. Hubby tends to get a little irritated living with a big kid but its still fun. I want my son to repect the wildness and the animals that live there. I also want him to learn about the animals that live in this area. So is there any other big kids out there?

I'm a kid at heart when it comes to exploring the woods.I've always got my eyes peeled for all the little things out there.
It's really neat when you can NAME the bugs and creepy crawlies.Impresses the heck out of others too.
We used to raise orphans for the DNR and our place looked like a zoo.
Snakes ?? heck I'll stop whatever I'm doing to appreciate a snake.I love them.
How bout wading a small stream and poking around to see whats there? HEAVEN for sure.

Yeah, Born I admit it. I have as much or more fun taking my kids out and showing them all the neat thing to find in nature.
They love finding a set of Turkey tracks or seeing where the deer ran past the house in the night. They also love collecting bugs and other small creatures. For some reason they are interested in salamanders all of a sudden. I have to take them to my dads this weekend to show them where the sneeky little amphibians live.
Shhh, dont tell anybody, I'll probably have more fun than they will crawling thru the dirt and scrounging under old decaying loggs. ;)

Thanks guys. Glad to hear there are other big kids out there. I love this time of the year the little critters are starting to roam. :)
