In this months woods-n-water the article on this buck stated it green scored 214 and some change are you telling us that it did not shrink after the 60 day drying period?

WOW! What a buck. I had a chance to hold/fondle that rack in Battle Creek last month. It's truely World Class and an example of what Michigan is capable of if our bucks are able to reach 4.5+ years of age.
Lonnie, it was great having you CBM guys at the Eaton County QDMA event last Saturday. Thanks for the service you provide the sporting community in Michigan, you're truely professionals!

He's saying it scored 217 0/8".
Lonnie is one of the most annal scores I've ever witnessed. If he says it's 217 0/8" it's 217 0/8".
Was the person who wrote the article an official scorer and did they know that racks have to dry 60 days before anything is official?
Amazing that on only the 3rd post in this thread someone is questioning this great buck and an honorable man's integritity.

QDMAMAN - I just find it hard to believe that it green scored 214 and now after the 60 day drying period it scores higher?? The article in woods-n-water states that it may be a state record after the drying period so I would say that they are aware that the 214 was un-official. Someone (not picking on Lonnie) needs to check their tape measure

That's why it's a green score...it's unofficial. A lot of times guys just do a quick measurement or have someone measure the rack who hasn't been trained correctly. It's not strange to have a slight difference in score. Plus add the fact that two different guys scored a non typical set of antlers, your not going to get the same number.
That is a great buck by the way...WOW!

Yeah That ! The official score can be either higher or lower than the green score (spelled "unofficial score").

Generally CBM measurers won't do a green score, I know I don't do them, so it was probalably done by a someone else, taxidermist, etc. With a rack like this, it wouldn't be unusual to be off somewhat. It's easy to see different intrepretations of a particular point(s) and resulting final score.
Measuring is probably as much art, as science. That's why record racks are panel measured.
This is quite the animal. Congradulations to the hunter.

Neighbor claims he shot the buck.
There were two projectiles in the same hole where the final shot was (he'd been shot before). The hunter claimed he accidentally double loaded his muzzle loader (as told by the taxidermist).
It is pretty much all drama and expected of a world class buck, unfortunately.

Looks kinda small. He should have put more distance between himself and the deer when taking the picture!:hide:
Seriously though, can anyone even imagine seeing something like that in the woods? What a bruiser!
