Per the Dnr the spring fire season has started early this year due to the warm windy days we've had. The DNR and Forest service has responded to 137 wildfires so far that have burned 1,596 acres compared to the zero fires the same time last year. The DNR states that over half the fires were caused by people doing outdoor burning.
The DNR cautions everyone to be extremly careful with all outdoor fires. A permit is required before doing any outdoor burning and can be obtained from the DNR or the Forest service in the UP and northern LP of Michigan. In southern Michigan you can obtain a permit from your local fire depatment.
Information obtained from the Department of Natural Resources publications list.
