Does anyone have any reports on the ice conditions for Erie Metropark, Airport Bay, Banana Dyke, or any other locations near by? I drove down Lee Rd. and i saw a few people at Erie Metro and then i went down to the gate for the banana dyke off roberts road but i didn't see any cars. I've fished the metropark a million times and never cought anything worth a damn so i'd rather not go there. Thanks for any info....

Friend of mine went and checked the canal out to Airport, not safe. I imagine there is good ice in the Bay, but getting there is the problem. I heard from another friend they are catching perch at Bellanger Park.

I was at Airport Bay this evening. Not much going. 2 of us fished about 3 hrs and caught an Emerald shiner, a dink rock bass, and a 6" perch. Buddy had a nice perch on right at dark, but lost it at the hole. Didn't see anyone else killing them, either.

Myself and 3 friends fished Airport Bay from 7 till about 3 and caught 7 or 8 keepers between us. My friend that was in my shanty also caught a nice pike on a pink jig tipped with a minnow. Saw a lot of perch including the biggest perch I've ever seen out there, but they were not interested in what we had.

Finally we got into em. We caught 40 perch and iced 30. One miss on a tip up with a sucker. We fished from 9 am till dark, moved twice. 4 FOW on top of weeds, early on we fished out towards the flagpole on sand bar, had a nice pack of 8 move in and hooked and lost one, they spooked and nothing till 2 pm after we pulled back into the bay over weeds. Minnows on GID jigs, and the three biggest came on a small gold jigging spoon with a red bead and gulp grub. Fish were (kept fish) 7 inches -13 inches.:)
ps. Saw the biggest two gills of my life, couldn't get them to bite. Pretty neat to see two Master Angler fish together in the same hole. Was getting ready to jump in and grab them!

Airport Bay today and brave the elements???? I wanted to go, but reviewed the weather and took a pass. Just wondering, I was thinking the morning bite would have been hot if one had a line in the water.

thanks william and soggy.. If someone wants to pm me directions for posting pics, I would really appreciate it. got another snow day today (being a teacher is really tough when the snow days come when there is good ice:D) So I am off to find some local bluegills. would LOVE to try and catch those perch again (not sure I'll ever get over watching the perch swim off that I pulled the hook out of because he got stuck in 6 inch hole:( FROM HIS BELLY TO HIS DORSAL FIN!!!!:yikes:), but I am not risking a 2.5 hour drive to find out you can't get to any of the fish. You guys that live over there close oughta take advantage of whatcha got there. Me, I'm gonna go take advantage of some REALLY nice gills.
FISH ON!!!

We tried to get out today from the parking lot at Ford Yact Club.....not happening. The wind/rain really tore up the canal and the access where the plywood is has been broken to the point where you cant access it. The bubblers from the nearby docks cant be helping either....Sorry for the bad news.
Me and my buddy, along with 2 other truckloads took a look and left. Oh yeah besides that there were no other vehicles in the parking lot.

Fished today from 12-4 and kept 11. Water was fairly clear but got real cloudy around 4. Talked to a old timer who said he did real well Saturday. The wind was ridiculious today. Cannot access by canal. They came in a hammered in tight schools. Also talked to a local resident and he confirmed the action was excellent Saturday. It's been the best in years out there.

Yup, it's Hickory Island....Interesting picture.

That is Hickory for sure, also if you look close you can see the ice though. I am sure the ice out there is still good, just the canal at FYC is the questionable part.
SBB, thanks for checking the canal, I'm sure there are a bunch of guys who appreciate that.

That picture was from a boat,( yes i did go on a boat ride yesterday ),between celeron and the bay. There are 3 shanties on the ice. and seen 2 guys hoofin it out. pic was at like 5:45.
As for the crossdike. You coulda got to sugar. It is all frozen in from sugar to the channel. So I have no idea how you would got on the ice there.

For the ice report, yes we did fish yesterday (Wed.), and one of those shanties in Andys pic was us. We parked at Ford Yacht club, and walked all the way around the island to get on. The canal ice is very shaky, and I really dont know if I would attempt to get on it again. The ice in Airport bay is so clear it is almost freaky, with 10 inches being the norm. We caught mostly dinks, and the water is stained with visability about a foot.
Again, use extreme caution when getting on at FYC. The shore ice is unsafe, you have to walk around the island to get on.

I have been on the phone at various times today with a buddy of mine who fished there all day today with his cousin. At the last update around 6pm they had around 10 worth keeping. Seems like a long time for very few fish. Hoping to try Airport this Saturday.

Went by airport bay this morning and seen a lot of people out on the ice. Spent about over an hour driving around tryin to figure out where people park and had no luck and got pissed off and left.:rant: I know its slim pickens but can someone please let me know where i can park. I drove by the wonder well and seen where they roped it off. i Hear some people talk about how they park at the ford yacht club and walk a canal but i couldn't find it. I seen a couple other marinas/yacht clubs but they weren't named ford yacht club. Anyways, after i left there i went to the marina behind wyandotte hospital and fished from 10 to about 2:30 and cought about 40 dink perch. I seen 2 decent sized ones swim by my hole but they wouldn't bite and i seen about a 10" goldfish/carp swim by. It was kinda werid watchin this big bright orange thing swim by.:yikes:

The ONLY legal parking is at the Airport and then make the 1/2 mile walk down frenchmans creek to the bay.
And that will depend if the creek residents have'nt put out bubblers.
I know it's a bunch of BS.
Millions made off fishing gear..where the hell can you use it?...same goes for hunting/shooting equip. Why buy all this crap if ya have no where to go.

Dang, my bad...sorry guys...I haven't been on since the last post. The ice is good...:D:hide:. Went out this morning, late...son in tow.....some guys were hammering em early between 700 am and 900am. We got there right after they shutdown again. Half a dozen is all....just add to the bag in the freezer for now. Water clarity is poor, have to move around to find clearer water. Ficious Zits in Fire Tiger Glow with a whole minnow and aggressive jigging....would not touch a dead stick minnow.
Ice was getting a little shaky by the fence, the boards we threw down last week are still there and someone added another board, but the ice was breaking some under the latest board at 2pm.
I hear guys are taking boats to the crossdike and absolutely slaying them by the bucket fulls, when the schools come in early. Good luck and becareful.

Hey SBB, I don't believe Gene was talking about you. He ttold me that he was going to check it and post and then he didn't. I think he was just taking a dig at himself.
We did pretty good actually, I caught probalby 30 and kept 20. Most of them were really nice with one absolute hog thrown in. Fish measured right at 14" and the thing had shoulders! I will post in a thread about Airport shortly.
