I am in need of a new shanty heater because the one that I bought at Lakeside last year is terminally broken. More about this piece of C:mad: later on.

It seems like most people are using the Mr. Heater Buddie Heater that lists between $75.00 and $85.00 at Cabelas and Bass World. I went on the Home Depot site and found that they have a heater that looks just like the Buddie Heater but they call it the Dyna-Glow Tagalong Heater and it lists for about half on the Heater Buddie. Does anyone know if this heater is the same as the Heater Buddie or just a knockoff? If it is just a knock off, I am going to use my Cabela's points and order a Heater Buddie.

The heater I bought last year from Lakeside is very basic and sits on top of the gas bottle. It has a screen that fits over the heat reflector but refuses to stay on. I think I paid about $35.00 for it. From day one, this thing never put out much heat. My buddie bought one too and we had to use both of them along with my son's Coleman catalytic until to get the shanty warm enough to be comfortable.

I broke the heating element (the part that glows) last deer season. I was carrying it in a milk crate on my four wheeler and the bouncing around must have broken the heating element. I have tried everywhere and no one has ever heard of it. I asked Frank at Lakeside about it and he said that it has a vague recollection of stocking it last winter but that they have not carried it this year. I was wondering if anyone else had bought one of these heaters and if anyone knows who carries parts for it. I can't find a name on the unit, all there is is the letter "M" or perhaps "W" stamped on the side ot it. If anyone knows anything about this heater so that I can try to order a part for it so I can use it as a spare.

I got 2 Dyno-glows. Small one and a big one. Same as a Mr.Buddy, a couple cosmetic differences.

Thanks for the info. Now all I have to do is find one. Apparently everyone is sold out. I will do some more checking around to see if I can come up with anything locally.

I was at Gander Mountain in Utica last weekend and they had the little buddy heaters on sale for about $60.00 and they had plenty in stock. I have one and love it, but I have only had it for one year.

I too bought a Dyna Glo at Home Depot for $39.99 three winters ago. It has been a champ in my shack since day 1. After each use, I store it in its carrying case and have had no problems. Always lights and produces plenty of heat in the low mode. 1 lb. cylinder will last in excess of 5 hours on Low. I would recommend one. Tight Lines

I have the buddy heater that has the low 02 sensor in it. it's fine as long as you use it nicely. bump it, blow on it, or anything else and it will shut off. Check Meijer to see if they have heaters on clearance. I bought everyone I could find last year and they all still work great (mount on top of the grill propane tank type.) I think I picked them up for $20 or so. I like the Mr. buddy for the fact that it will not kill you/or make you sick if you leave it on too long. The ones I picked up from Meijer last year (right about this time of year) were in with the grilling stuff, not in the sporting goods area. They will cook you outta the shanty on low. Hope this helps.

The Mr. Buddy I am speaking of is the self contained catalytic model that runs off 1 lb. propane tanks.

The heaters I picked up at Meijer were the mount on top of a grill tank type heaters. some no name brand that have worked pretty well.

Might trywww. TEXSPORT.com, they make a small heater that has a black plastic base and the heater head goes on a 1 lb cylinder. Mike

I got a Coleman EventCat,,, catalytic heater for Christmas,,, I don't like it. It gives off a weird smell. Do all the catalytic type give off that smell,,, or does it wear off,, after I get some run time out of it???

My son has one. I used it for a while last winter and did not notice any problem with odor. The main problem with it is that it does not throw up much heat. I personally would not bother with one. The Buddie Heater sounds like it would be much a much better set up.
