Man I love fishing during the week. Pulled into the lot and got out of my car to check ice at canal and seawall. Pressure crack still looked iffy and it didn't look like anyone got on the ice using that route (at least there were no people fishing South of the seawall). There were at least 12 cars in the lot and people were walking out of the lot to access the ice from the end of the road. Pressure crack goes all the way across here too so you have to be careful. Ice seemed pretty locked up but the lake side ice seemed to be buckling down at the crack so there was about 6" of surface water on the lake side - ice seemed safe though when I spudded it. There was a little area near the south side seawall where there was no surface water but you had to take a little "leap of faith".

Walked maybe 1/2 mi out, ice was ~8". Watched one guy bucket hopping and not having much luck so I took out the GPS and went to a spot I had decent luck at 2 or 3 years ago. Drilled holes and set up shanty. Water clarity was decent. I was in about 7' of water and if I was using a light colored jig with a waxworm I could see my bait at the bottom. Couldn't really see the fish though unless they hit the lure. As soon as I got a wiggler in the water the thing hadn't even hit bottom before I got a fish. Caught 6 fish right away then tangled my lines up and had a bit of a lull. Fished the same holes all day (ie 2-6) and probably ended up catching 50+ fish. They were all pretty much cookie cutter males in the 7-8" range - only two jumbos in the mix. I threw 'em all back.

Catchin' fish on pretty much everything. When I first started it was wigglers but I was going through them too quick. Switched to waxies and that did alright. Tried mousies and they did good later in the day. Had minnows on the entire time and it was off and on with them. Caught a few on a firetiger rap with red bead. One jumbo came on a large silver pimple tipped with two minnows, the other on a GID red Genz Fat Boy tipped with mousies. Lost a few other nice ones on the same set up.

Oh and I did miss what would have been my largest bass to date had I landed it,

All in all a pretty good day. I love my GPS and I love fishin' LSC during the week:coolgleam

Probably gonna try those same holes today.:D

Perhaps the WAAS signals from your GPS hypnotized the fish into biting!

Congrats on a good day. Its nice to hear the catch and release. I do that too unless they are slobs. I still have fish in the freezer from last year so don't need that much for me. I love weekday ice fishing so much that I'll actually burn up a couple vacation days during this season.

Also CONGRATS on the 700th post!!

I pretty much only keep fish in the winter and I too still have some from last year so I wasn't keeping anything without some shoulders. In all actuality, if there weren't days during Lent that are supposed to be meatless, I'd probably hardly ever keep fish.

I have seasonal work so I usually have quite a bit of time to ice fish. I'll usually fish LSC during the week and then go to an inland lake to avoid the madhouse on the weekend.

And thanks for the congrats, I figured a new thread would be just the way to celebrate.:)
