Are these shanties decent. I have the opportunity to pick up a used one. It is a couple years old and not used to often. I'm not sure on model ( although Ranger xlt sounds familiar ), but it is a 2 person with black plastic molded seats that fit onto a metal rail on the edge of the sled, and you pull the shanty over you and extend some aluminum poles with buttons. Also, what is a Jiffy 3hp auger worth? They are asking $250.00 for the shanty and $100.00 for the auger. Thanks

I have the Frabill XLTwin and I love it. Lots of room for fishing and storage in the sled. It is on the heavy side though but it can still be pulled by a single person.

We own 2 Frabill shanties and think they are great. My brother has the similar shanty you are talking about (Frabill XLTwin). It is an awesome big room shanty for two guys. Comfortable seats, plenty of room for storage. As just stated though it does get heavy dragging it out by foot. Especially once you start adding a power auger and a couple vexilars. We've dragged it out many times and pulled it behind a quad a few times on Erie and it's lasted very well. Just make sure you tuck the lower skirt inside the sled before you pull it or you will rip it up on the ice. The other one is a box shaped Frabil about 6 foot long and over 5foot high, maybe 4 feet wide with a thin sled. That one is nice and light and very easy to pull. We would recomend there shanties for the price!!

You can see a pic of one of ours in my photos :http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=23630&ppuser=5545

CMfish, that is the shanty I'm looking at picking up. I used this last weekend. Does the price sound about right? Also, on the back side of the sled there were 2 small bungies, what are they used for? Also on the sides were 2 small hooks on the elastic part of the material where it meets the sled, but I didn't see a place to hook it to the sled. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Any one know if they still make covers for this model?

That sounds like a good price for the shanty. The two bungee are used to secure loose material for transport and also for when the shelter is used as a windbreak. I believe there are a couple of holes in the lip of the sled where these can be hooked on, and also for the s hooks on the bottom of the cover. I contacted Frabill concerning the cover a couploe of weeks ago and they are still available for $69.99. Overall it is a really nice shanty.

I have 2 Frabill and like both of them. I pull mine with a quad so the cover is a must.

I have a two man Frabill Trecker that sets up like the one you're looking at and I love it----a little heavy pulling by hand but who cares.

I have the frabill ranger solo...a bit heavy once you start adding everything, i put mine on ski's and dont really have to much of a problem pulling it unless there is 8 inches or more of snow....i'm satisfied with the strength of the sled, seat is comfortable, and canvas is made well...very comfortable for one person...

I own a frabill super shack xl(4 man) and a frabill 1 man flip and I love them both. The four man is a bear by yourself, but great with 2 or 3 guys. I've never had to anchor either of mine down. I would say more than worth the price.:)

I have the frabill prowler two man. This is my second year using it, and won't trade for any other shanty out there. $250 for that shanty is a steal, considering the prices that they are running now. I love the two storage compartments that are built into the sled. Keeps alot of stuff out of the way, when not needed.

Have fun with your new shanty

My nephew has one of the early model Xl Twins 350.00 he paid and it is a lot lighter than my Xl twin mine is one of the last that was made before they dicontinued that model and the sled is way more heavier I got it on close out at bass pro for 275.00 they hold up well my nephew has used his for 6 years now and I mean used .so I would say if you can pick one up for 250.00 thats not bad .The travel cover is about 70.00 .I don't know much about the jiffy auger but I would say any gas auger should be worth 100.00. Good Luck and stay safe.

Ok, I bought the Frabill Trekker in January, am very dissapointed with their "ice Armour". I love the shanty, but the material is not holding up at all. It looks like there are runs in nylons all up and down the one side of the shanty. Has anyone else had this problem? Any idea's of what I can do about this? Does Frabill have a warrenty on this stuff?

Fish 24/7 answered the questions to the best of my knowledge! We have pulled the shanty with a quad without the cover but we had some gear on top of it to keep everythign in place.

We've tried for a few seasons to get the cover and you HAVE to go to frabill to try to get one. Nobody carries the cover as it is an older model already. Frabil also makes a small set quantity of them so when they sell out for the season you have to wait until the next ice season in order to pick one up. We contacted them last year, got the part number but never made the order (didn't have the extra cash at the time).

Good deal, I belive the shanty new was around $350ish at Sports Authority when we bought it. Ours was a store demo so we got a small discount and it's been great. No probelms with the material ripping (unless you dont' tuck it in during transport, as I said above).

Did you follow thru and pick it up??

I own two Frabills for about five years now and love them. I bought a patch kit from mfr. basically two 1 foot squares of material and have done alittle sewing over the years my bad, not theirs, lantern/heater burns, wild auger....
I just this year mounted one on two pieces of 1/2" conduit=emt stuck inside four six inch pieces of 3/4". it raised my shanty to 17" off ice and pulls like a dream. I have a strong feeling the other one will be mounted the same shortly.
The only disadvantage is I have to completely unload it to remove conduit.
Sounds like great deal to me.
