Fished Brendal Lake off M-59 Sunday. Sub-zero temperatures, and gusts up to 40 mph. I had to stick my foot in the hole to keep the shanty from blowing me and a buddy across the lake. At least until I used my auger to make some slush to put around the skirt, which locked my two man Frabill shanty down. Had a Mr. Heater purchased from Ken(Ninja) @ KD Outdoors. Highly recommend this heater. I fished from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm. on 3 small Coleman propane canisters, and very comfortably considering the conditions.
Not a great day of fishing however. 30 gills caught only 5 keepers, in about 6-7 foot of water. No flags either. Ice about 6". Water slightly stained with about 8-10' of visibility. We threw everything at them: wigglers, waxies, spikes, perch minnows, nothing worked well. The only success off of waxies and spikes.

I'm not accusing you of anything, but did you have permission to fish this lake? I live on it, and it is private. We have a HUGE trespassing problem out here.

My buddy, who I was fishing with, has an uncle who lives on the lake. So yes, it was with permission.

That is using the phrase "very comfortable" a little loosely. It was tolerable during the day, and when the winds died down after about 5 o'clock it finally became comfortable.

Cool. I didn't want to offend you, but with the way things have been out there lately with trespassers I'm really getting pissed off. But if you have permission then that's cool. I don't fish out there much, because of the riff raff, but if you see a fish trap pro scootin around the ice feel free to introduce yourself.
BTW, I saw you out there yesterday. I was out fishing another lake and came in at about 2:00. You guys braved it for quite a while. Nice job.

I don't get out there often. Matter of fact it has been three years since the last time I was out there. Probably because I never have any luck. The weather wasn't as bad some people think. You just have to be prepared, patient, and thorough when planning a trip on an otherwise crappy day. I had fun even though I didn't catch much. Congrats on yourself getting out as well. Here's a cheers to the two of us not giving in and wasting a free day on the couch.

I've fished Brendal several times during the summer. As a kid we used to canoe through it from the access at Cedar Island Lake via the Huron River. Then on to my grandma's lake, Fox Lake. Do you know if the old dam is still there on the outlet Mark?
I was there this summer but couldn't get into any decent gills...alot of small ones.
