We have a bunch of guys heading out to kalkaska this weekend.
Should we hit Margareth, bear, east, fife or schmegmog!!

It's an annual outing that has a tid bit more social activites then fishing, But we do try!! ...........honest!!

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We're leaving Thursday night, so maybe the Friday day bite might be better??

Thanks in advance!!!.............hoprfully..........;)

Not sure about those lakes mentioned near Kalkaska, (just moved to the area) I know that long lake is good for pike and walleye, and Arbutus lake has panfish. Not to far of a drive form Kalkaska.

I know you can scratch Skegemog off your list. It has been dead as of lately. Unless you feel like keeping a mess of dink perch.

Fife is always a good choice off of the islands on the opposite side from town.

Call Skips bait shop in Grayling.

Try Margareth off Eagle Point for Walleye.

Here is a report I just found. Mentions the last in that area you are going.

Skeg was good to me the last few outings on perch. Even got some cisco's. No tip up action for me as of yet. Wouldn't mind one of them big muskie's takin a sucker in. They are getting whitefish off of the school in ER and Kewadin bay before this past weekend.

Was reading the thread on the boardman.....

Walleye, Perch, and some pike to boot! That doesn't sound bad either.

Any recent reports from any lake in the area would be appreciated.

We'll report with our catch (hopefully) on Monday when we return!

Thanks,
YS

I have heard some good reports about boardman and also fife. My friend lives near fife and he usually can get about 20 perch and 2 pike almost everytime he goes and last week he reported to me that they got 8 pike in the morning along with a limit of perch. Now only acouple of teh piek were keepers but that sounded pretty good to me. Someone on here went out on Boardman last week and did alright. He said he got someperch right off of Logans landing there and a walleye, there is allso quite a few pike in there, just make sure to watch out for were the river comes in.

mjm,

Were they catching decent perch at Skegmog??

My grandfather was catching a mess of 9-11 inchers every time he went out. Then I started going out and only caught a couple decent sized ones and a bunch of dinks. Haven't been up there in 2 weeks though so it may have turned around.
