muskrat in my hole!!

had the wierdest thing happen to me yesterday, me and a buddy were ice fishin yesterday and well we were just mindin are own bussiness watchin fish through our holes ( we were in a shanty with all windows closed)and i had a muskrat come to the hole i had my face hovering above:yikes:. yeah i freaked out never ever expected to have that happen ever. well after a good long laugh by me my buddy i thought well got that scare out of the way that will never happen agian right... wrong . about an hour later and differnt location i was chillin out in the shanty by my self and had my face even closer( i was on my hands in knees lookin around so my face was probly 5 inches or so from the hole) yup happens again:mad:. i was not happy to have the crap scared out of me for the second time in one day. i have never heard of this happening to someone once much less twice in an hour in 2 differnt spots. thought i would share my "adventure" and see if anyone else has had that happen before.

Happens quite often in spearing shantys. Depends a lot on the lake though. I could count on it happening about every second time out in the spearing shanty on the lake my dad lived on in Jackson............

Does scare the crap out of you...........we also started putting the lid on the spearing hole when we left for the day as if you didn't the critters would make themselves at home in the shanty............

i have heard of it happening before lol, so i always keep it in the back of my mind, were you in a shanty? at least he didnt decide to come out and play! that would be a site to see, all zipped up in your shanty and a muskrat gets inside :lol:

Happened to me on a small inland lake about 4 years ago. Dumb thing stuck its head out of the hole, then dove back in. Scared the crap out of me, and I still get teased about freaking out!!!

That happened to me and a buddy once while fishing a local canal in the evening for Crappie's.The darn thing almost came all the way in on my buddies side of the shanty.Needless to say my buddy got the crap scared out of him.We still laugh about that today.

Well,i've never had an animal come up thru the hole,BUT,I did have a "jimmy" float-up into my fishing hole on the saganaw river:yikes:a few year's ago.Scooped it out with my ice-scoop and put it in my buddy's minnow bucket.A little while later he come's over telling me he had a hit while reaching into the bucket.He ended up with 2 minow's and a SUPRIZE in his hand.The look on his face when he relized what it was,PRICELESS!!!!I allmost pissed my-self laughing so hard:lol::lol::lol: GOOD TIME'S,GOOD TIME'S:lol::lol:

I read in Sports Afield magazine decades ago about some fella taking his
black lab pike spearing in the shanty. Whem the dog saw a large pike it
jumped in the hole after it and shortly later came up in another persons
shanty. It said that fella made a very very fast exit.

Yeah I read that exact same thing! I bet that guy was terrified seeing something as big as a lab come up from under the ice.

Been there ,done that several times over the years----gets the heart pumping !:lol:
I could tell you how to make sure the rat doesn't return but that's another story all together !;)

couple of years ago i watched an otter come onto the ice and go through an open hole , few seconds later came back out the hole with a gill, sat there and ate it, then back through the hole. he did this about a half dozen times before heading back to the woods. i probably missed a few hits while watching it but was worth it
