Thinking about hitting Munising bay the last weekend of Feb. Has anyone fished there....and If so can you tell me any information? Also anyone live up there. I heard the ice was just now forming on the munising bay but considering it is 3 weeks from now I am hopeful. Thinking about maybe whities or I heard they also catch coho in late feb early march.

I remember last year people were out there fishing for whitefish and they kept getting monster perch. I asked a guy what he did with all the perch and he said "Threw em back of course"! Crazy.

With my grandparents, go where the crowds are and fish the bottom if you want whitefish, grandma always was chummimg them with corn, macaroni, dog food. And when the coho are there fish 15 0r 20 feet below the ice and be ready when someone hooks one because everyone will hook one on each line, as they come through in big schools. And those little coho are the best eating, too.

Anyone know when the coho come into Munising bay under the ice?
This whole concept started from a possible no go on a trip to simoce. We have the trip planned for the last weekend of February which goes into March. The lake simcoe web sites are indicating a ton of slush right now (I hate deep slush we travel with quads) so therefore I am considering LBDN for walleye. Good idea but they close the walleye season there on the last day of February. What I am hoping to do is hit the walleye Friday / Saturday and then shift north to Munising for Sunday and Monday.
eh anyway, thanks for the information on munising. Any one else wanna chime in or make a better suggestion that Munising for some late winter fun?

When I was a teenagr we use to get the cohos every winter thru the ice below the damn in Frankenmuth. It was unbelievable....by far the best bait was a colorado spinner blade with a couple beads of red and yellow...vrtically jigged just enough to make the blade fop up and down. We would watch the fish come into the hole...somtimes multiple fish at a time...damn that was fun!
