I was up last weekend and there wasn't much smelt action at all. But a couple of nice 2-3 lb lakers did make it to the grill. Went out from the West ramp... caught one in 60ft and another in 95ft. There was one other dink that went back for next year. And you do need a vexilar they are not always down by the bottom. My fav. jigging lure is the large white jigging rapala with a minnow head on it. And by the way Wildcoy whats your best grilling recipe for lakers.

Talked to the people at the phoenix park party store, they told me they didn't get the snow we did.

Fished this morning with son-we kept 15 good perch in the 8-10 inch range, lots of 7-7.5 inchers, kept him busy:).

Snow cover is around 4-8 inches but the deeper stuff is actually slush-at least in parts on the north end. No problems at all with atv..not to worry as tonight and sunday temps will lock it up real good!! Ice is 12-14 inches.

No idea on smelt or lakers.

Smelt are starting to pick up on the north end and the Lakers have been doing very well in very deep water but I cant tell you the exact places cause they are not my secrets to give out. But like most lakes in Michigan things are touch and go because of the bad weather.

Just got back from higgins. Did alright for lakers, pretty slow weekend though, even with smelt for bait. Smelt action is picking up, got around 80 among 4 of us in a couple hours. The bite was fairly steady. Very windy both days up there, didn't even make it out today because of the wind. Ice is about 8-10 inches.

Last night we ended up with 33 between two guys and five hours of fishing off the west launch.

I caught 17 on a green hali-jig and spikes tonight. Fished from sunset until 11:30PM. West boat launch.
