Lantern...... yes. Mine sorta .... kinda ........ well let me put it this way. We had a little firedrill in the shanty last Saturday evening. One hellava way to keep your hands warm Mike.:yikes::lol:

I only caught 5 myself, but I was not targeting them. My buddy was using a smaller bait tipped with a waxie and caught around ten.

The water was not crystal clear but you could see what was going on in 6 f.o.w. Throughout the day I bet I saw at least 25 gills.

We got there a little after sun up. We(fasteight) hit one of the many small marinas on the island. My first 3 fish were all pike, landed one and lost 4 jigs to the larger ones. fasteight found the fish and we were able to get some nice gills.

Action was never fast, but the size was there. Joeker51 arrived a little later, and we moved around a bit and never really hooked up on them again. A little brutal out there(fasteight was out on the open ice til Joeker51 got there). We managed a couple dozen gills and a half dozen decent perch.

with the wind and cold yesterday i think we did alright.. made for a long day but was still a great time.. pretty much had the run of the ice with so few out and about... Joe, thanks for letting me "fill the hole" in da shanty.. Harry, as always, had a great time but sometime do ya think we can get together on a day that doesnt have 3-6fter's(summer) or isnt 30below zero and blowin???? sheesh, 2 weeks from now isnt soundin much better, gonna be gettin another front like this one...:rant: hope they wrong...

Thought we were on a segment of Deadliest Catch on the ferry. 3 ftrs from the wrong direction and rock-n-rolling. Was kinda neat to see Harry's truck freeze over when the waves broke the bow.:lol: Instantanious freeze from the spray. Unbelievable. Gotta have that heater roaring Harry. Mine barely froze even though the hood still has quite a bit of ice on it this morning.

It was a good day regardless. Have to do it again. Gills were the biggest I've seen in quite awhile.:coolgleam

Glad I could take the "bullet" for you on the ferry. I took 6-8 waves on the windshield, good thing you parked your roller skate next to a taller vehicle. Defrost never caught up at those temps, Had to scrape it again later.

I was hoping if I was quiet nobody would notice :hide:, Got stuck with out-of-state house guest`s who`s Dodge is still at the dealer, tried to talk him into going but they are from a somewhat warmer climate and were having no part of sitting on a lake at 3 degrees. I tried to explain to them I have`nt been to a good shanty burning party lately, I even showed them the pics from Harry all I got was blank stares, who knows about some people. Too bad you couldn't make it Mike, the big ones were biting, not just looking. There just weren't as many as we'd like. If it made it to 3 degree's yesterday, I mighta wore shorts(see quote above). Joeker fell short on yesterday's bonfire, coulda used the heat. Even in my shanty, it only took 15 seconds before I couldn't see my baits(scoop-a-thon). Sure were alot of pike around.

My dad and I went out to Walled Lake on Sunday and ATTEMPTED fishing. The winds were pretty bad. Let's just say that my father and I invented a new sport. Shanty-para-surfing!!!:yikes::yikes:.....Literally, I got frost bite (Mildly on my fingers because I didn't like putting up the metal poles with gloves.) Then we never got to fish because with the both of us we were riding across the lake. Better luck this weekend, even though my dad found it fun:lol::lol:.

Fasthunter, on the rope that we pull the shanty with I have a piece of pipe attached to it. Auger a spare hole and run the pipe and rope into it. One way to anchor the critter down.;) It saves on the cardiovascular work out.:D
